Just do away with zones and acadamies. All it does is dilute the draft.

Reward clubs who promote the game thru acadamies with soft cap relief or something along those lines. Atually reward clubs for giving back to grass roots in a way where it does not corrupt the draft.

At the very least the bottom 4 or 6 clubs should have access to every available player in the draft every year. If one of your acadamy kids happens to be rated top 6 and your not a bottom 6 club  tough luck.

The whole idea of the ND is to equalise the comp all i see is in particular clubs with great zones mainly northern clubs getting a leg up over every one else.

How do you feel about F/S?

Some out there are adamant this Academy BS is critical but I disagree. I'd F it off right away and only keep F/S on a new eligibility/sliding-scale discount scheme.

Zaydyn Lockwood wins Bendigo Pioneers B&F after being overlooked in last year's draft.

Hopefully Richmond can pick him up as a Cat B rookie

Why as Cat B?

I thought that was for people of more diverse backgrounds or pathways to AFL?

He was in the 'The Victorian Diversity All-Stars U18 Boys team in 2023'.

Whatever that is.

So it'd be very handy if he was eligible for the b list.

Another young developing ruck with Sims would be useful.

If they are rated a top 5 pick you pay their worth sliding scale if you like.. You will only get a few F/S every year and the majority are probably not first rounders but either way you pay.

I also don't think F/A compensation comes into play until after those in the bottom third of the ladder have had their first pick.

Tanner Armstrong is playing now in the National Futures Boys Match. Wearing #4 for Team Boak.

Out of interest, Cody Walker is also playing in the match for the other Team Docherty. He's already had 16 disposals and 5 clearances in the first half.

NEXT GEN ZONES REVEALED

NORTH Melbourne will keep its Wyndham region as part of its new Next Generation Academy zones, with the AFL close to releasing its new-look NGA map.

AFL.com.au revealed earlier this week the League had settled on wide-ranging changes to its NGA system in eligibility and criteria as well as access to prospects.

It comes after a long process to settle on revamped zones for Victorian clubs in particular, who are having to accommodate the addition of the Kangaroos, who are losing their Tasmania foothold with the establishment of the Devils.

The Kangaroos are understood to be keeping their Wyndham access as part of their updated region, with that a big part of the club's submission to the AFL, and are also expected to get a northern corridor part of Victoria.

That will likely push into Richmond's current zone
, with all clubs to have metropolitan and either a regional or remote zone attached to them in the new structure.

The Roos had focused on the opportunities of fan growth through their Next Generation Academy as part of their submission when targeting a new area within the state.
