Is Tiger Time up? AFL greats unpack Richmond’s horror restart to 2020

The Tigers booted the first goal, but it was all downhill from there as the Saints ran out winners by 26-points.

The Tiger train is currently off the tracks, with the 2019 premiers sitting in 11th place, with St Kilda champion Nick Riewoldt declaring they looked “frustrated” following a number of out of character performances.

“They’re just struggling for form, I think it is as simple as that,” he said on Fox Footy after the game.

“We’ve been waiting week after week for the first three weeks since we resumed the season, they just haven’t been able to capture it with any level of consistency.

“We saw it in spurts against Collingwood, defensively they’ve been pretty good until today where they were opened up at times.

“We saw it again at the start of the game, they kicked the first goal and look up and about and thought ‘here they are, here come the Tigers’.

“This is a team that has achieved great things over the past three years, at the moment they’re not at that level.”

Riewoldt explained the Tigers system was breaking down, with Jason Dunstall suggesting St Kilda’s pressure never allowed for Richmond to play its game.

“We’re only seeing glimpses of the football that has done that for them over the last three years,” he said.

“Every now and then you see a passage and go ‘here they come, they’re ready to go’. But St Kilda’s pressure didn’t allow them to do that other than on the odd occasion.”
