6 September 2020Richmond remain well in contention for the 2020 premiership, but Port Adelaide champion Kane Cornes has lashed out at the club for becoming too complacent following the Tigers two flags in three years.
Following the controversial strip club related COVID-19 breach involving Sydney Stack and Callum Coleman-Jones, the Tigers have been hit with a $100,000 fine, including $25,000 carrying over from a prior penalty involving Brooke Cotchin.
The ongoing off-field issues at the club have marred their on-field success in 2020, with Cornes stating “success has gone to their heads”.
Speaking on SEN’s Crunch Time, Cornes added the Tigers dynasty might not be remembered for their champion performances.
“I admire the teams that win yet remain humble, those are the champion teams in my eyes. It takes nothing away from what Richmond has done on the field, but I don’t think they’ve been a humble side this year.
“From the tweets have been sent out to communication and the antics in the song, I think they have got ahead of themselves and success has gone to their heads a little bit.
“It’s not synonymous with other teams who you’ve seen who have had really successful dynasties like Geelong and Hawthorn from a similar era.
“Whatever happens on the field, I think there’s a little chink in the armour in terms of what has gone on this year and their lack of humility.”
