HOW RICHMOND MASTERED AN “ART FORM” DURING PREMIERSHIP ERABy Alex Zaia

14 March 2021Richmond’s premiership dynasty has been built on peaking at the right time of the season.
Former Tigers assistant coach Justin Leppitsch says it’s an “art form” that Damien Hardwick’s all-conquering side have mastered during their run of three flags in four years.
Leppitsch has kept in contact with former Richmond colleagues and expects another hungry Tigers outfit to take to the field in 2021.
“You’ve got to be fit at the right time of the year often to win it,” he told SEN's This Is Your Sporting Life thanks to Tobin Brothers Funerals.
“Richmond have been brilliant at peaking at the right time in the last few seasons apart from 2018 where there were a lot of learnings where we finished on top but ran out of steam.
“That was one of the great lessons … it’s not about finishing on top of the ladder.
“Richmond have got a bit of an art form at peaking at the right time and making sure their whips are cracking in September.
“I still speak to the guys at Richmond all the time … that part (hunger) is really good, there’s no issue there.”
Leppitsch resigned from his role as Richmond assistant at the end of the premiership-winning 2020 campaign.
The ex-Brisbane senior coach returned to Punt Road at the end of 2016 after serving as an assistant coach under Hardwick between 2009-2013.
