« on: July 28, 2021, 04:31:34 PM »
This week is the 90s retro round.

So who was the best Tiger of the 90s?

And who was/were your favourite Tiger(s)?

The only correct answer to both questions is Richo and it ain’t even close.

I'm going against the grain but across the whole of the 90s I would say Knighter. Up to 1998 he was a gun player playing in ordinary teams. That 95 semi final where he single handedly kept us in the game was the stuff of legends.

I didn't say Richo because his breakout year wasn't until 1995 (which was wrecked by that ACL). It was more 1996 when the big fella kicked 91 goals in his comeback year did he begin to dominate in spite of playing in ordinary sides.

Aside from those two, Freezer was also a favourite. Him going down with that career ending ACL left a massive hole  :(.

Richo of course was brilliant throughout the 90s but I also thought Broderick was outstanding. His vision in contested packs was sublime. The team in 1995 was such a good team and I have always wondered if Richo had not done his ACL in 1995 whether we could have won the premiership that year.

No, remember the bloody Cheating-Scum were cheating their way into premierships by cheating.

He was always a touch on the slow side but he lost a yard after that knee he did vs Norf at Waverley Park....
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

What do you mean breakout year? He averaged over 2 goals a game in his debut year then kicked 56 goals as a 19 year old in his 2nd season. I think that is gun material right off the bat.

Richo for mine for both questions. Knighta close.
