August 16th, 2021 3:08 pmRichmond is investigating whether Dion Prestia broke the league’s strict Covid-19 protocols on Saturday night.
A screenshot of an Instagram story from Saturday night appears to show the Tigers midfielder, who played on Friday against GWS, out with friends in Richmond.
Prestia’s group of friends appeared to be involved in a pub crawl, based on the caption on the post, actions which were heavily criticised by Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton on Monday.
The AFL declined to comment, while the AFL Players’ Association is aware of the photo.
In a memo sent to clubs on August 3, the AFL made it clear what staff and players were not permitted to do under the league’s supplementary protocols.
It read: “When not at training or at matches, players and staff must avoid the following:
-Shopping centres, where the entrance to shop cannot be entered other than through a communal centre access point.
-Cinemas
-Mass events of 1000 or more people
-And any location where it is not possible to maintain social distancing.”
“We’ve seen some really disappointing behaviour, we’ve seen some selfish behaviour, and some absolutely outrageous behaviour,” Patton said.
“Every one of these things is just totally unacceptable and everybody knows they’re doing the wrong thing.
“We’ve seen so many different breaches, it’s just ridiculous and it has to stop.”
It’s understood the question hanging over Prestia’s head is whether he left home for the right reason and whether he was social distancing.
