Verdict: The Tigers traded out nearly all their draft picks, but secured Giant duo Taranto and Hopper in a massive boost to their midfield. They also managed to complete the deals without trading out Ivan Soldo, who they desperately wanted to keep. Rating: 9/10.

I'm impressed by how we target what we want, we make sure we've got enough to pay for the trade and get it done fairly.

All looks good, if Taranto and or Hopper gets injured though …

I like the overall list and am excited to see how it all unravels next year

I gave us 10/10 for identifying an issue with our midfield and spending the capital to bring in two A grade players with plenty of footy left in them.

Even with the picks we traded I have very little confidence we'd have drafted 2 a graders going off our recent performances and the law of averages.

Only thing left now is to draft and develop a key forward or two. We should take a chance with our two picks on a pair of raw, developing talls and we should also consider having a punt on one in the MSD depending on who is performing well at state level.

It's not just that we got two very gifted players; they also seem to be ripper blokes. Not like we traded for De Goey or 'The Package'.

KANE SAYS: The Tigers are all-in and their fans are pumped up. They put in an aggressive plan and executed it perfectly. There’s lots of hope that next year will deliver another premiership.

The 2022 AFL Trade Period is now done and dusted.

Matt Rendell has looked at the ins and outs at each of the 18 clubs and provided a grade for their trade period activity.

See the assessment of your club below:

RICHMOND

Rendell says: I know they had to give up 12, 19 and a future 1st, but Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper into their lineup is fantastic.

It makes them a massive chance to win the flag again next year.

Trent Cotchin in his last year, but their midfield looks super with these two blokes in there. Assuming Dion Prestia is back to full fitness, they’re going to challenge again.

They should just get an A+ for prising Hopper out of Geelong for a start.

They’ve reset here and they’re going to have to do a Geelong over the next few years to bring in these types of players to replace those retiring.

Trade grade: A+

2022 Draft Picks: 53, 63

The first big surprise out of these rankings – I reckon the Tigers, if anyone, ‘won’ the trade period.

Yes, they gave up two top-20 picks this year and their first-rounder next year. But in Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper, they got in return two midfield bulls who could and in all likelihood will go a long way towards fixing the Tigers’ most pressing issue – winning the ball out of the centre.

Throw in not even needing to trade backup ruck Ivan Soldo and Jack Graham taking one look at Port Adelaide and deciding the half-forward flank at the MCG actually looks quite nice after all, and the Tigers come out of this trade period having ticked every box they wanted to tick heading in, and lost nothing in return they couldn’t afford to.

Bravo.
