The ‘forgotten man’ of Tigerland, Mark Chaffey, is set to take another significant step on his comeback trail this weekend when he lines up for Coburg’s senior side in the VFL.
Chaffey, 29, resumed with Coburg reserves last weekend after missing three weeks with a calf injury. Before that, he’d played just two games with Coburg seniors this season following a lengthy battle with osteitis pubis, which had severely restricted his pre-season training.
“Mark played quite well with Coburg seconds last week. He got through the game okay and has pulled up well since. The plan now is for him to step up to Coburg seniors and play there this weekend. Hopefully, he can come through that well and start to push for senior selection with us,” said Richmond’s Football Operations Manager Paul Armstrong.
“He’s a proven senior player with considerable experience and that’s something we’re lacking at the moment with so many on our injury list. It would certainly be handy for us to have him available for selection.”
Three other Richmond players, who have been on the long-term injury list – Jay Schulz (shoulder), Tom Roach (jaw) and Kelvin Moore (groin) are expected to return the following week.
