Last Quarter horror show ... I mean ... analysis!
« on: July 10, 2022, 05:52:23 PM »
Ok here we go  :P.

At least 21 schoolboy errors in the last quarter by my counting  :help.

* 4 gettable missed chances at goal.
* 6 fundamental skill errors (eg: dropped uncontested marks, missed open targets under no pressure).
* 5 ill-disciplined acts (unnecessary frees/50m).
* 6 lack of game awareness acts (bad turnovers from dumb decision making, getting run down from behind, not going hard enough at the ball, etc.).

18:50 to go - Missed chance: Aarts fails to score from 20m out. (83 - 55)

16:50 - Lack of game awareness: Maybe harsh but Hugo too easily pushed off the ball by Casboult. Suns goal. (83 - 68 )

12:30 - Skill error x2: Jack's handball not on the full. Castagna sprays his kick to a Suns defender.  (89 - 68 )

10:20 - Missed chance: Maurice misses set shot from 30m out. (90 - 68 )

10:10 - Lack of game awareness: From the kick-in, Graham too slow and caught. (90 - 68 )

8:16 - Skill error + Missed chance: Double error. (91 - 68 )
                           (1) Broad's kick fails to hit either Jack or George.
                           (2) Aarts misses again from 20m out.

7:50 - Ill-discipline: Suns go coast to coast from the kick-in and Grimes gives away an unnecessary down the field free for a late push in the back. Gifts Gold Coast a goal. (91 - 74)

6:45 - Skill error: Grimes' first dropped mark. (91 - 74)

6:11 - Ill-discipline: Riewoldt needlessly gives away a soft free on the wing. (91 - 74)

6:00 - Missed chance: Castagna's infamous miss! Our last score for the game. (92 - 74)

4:40 - Lack of game awareness: Rather than maintaining possession and taking time off the clock, Graham plays on and kicks it long to a Suns defender. (92 - 75)

4:08 - Ill-discipline: From the resulting play, Short gives away 50m and a goal. (92 - 81)

3:40 - Ill-discipline: Riewoldt gives away another soft free for another unrealistic attempt. (92 - 81)

3:20 - lack of game awareness: Tarrant quickly plays on and kicks to a 1-vs-2 where Witts marks uncontested. Should have maintained possession or least waited and taken time off the clock while giving us time to set up down the line. (92 - 81)

2:11 - Lack of game awareness: Maybe a picky one but why give the responsibility of a kick-in with the game on the line to a youngster in Miller who has played only half a dozen games?
Plus again we don't try to maintain possession and wind down the clock. (92 - 82)

1:30 - Ill-discipline: Miller gives away an unnecessary free when we had more numbers around the ball. (92 - 82)

1:18 - Lack of game awareness: Resulting free kick allowed to go over the back of the pack for a Suns goal. (92 - 88 )

1:00 - Skill error: Maybe harsh but Edwards runs over the ball. Suns gain possession. (92 - 88 )

0:43 - Skill error: Suns go forward, Grimes drops another mark. Leads to winning Suns goal after the siren. (92 - 94)

:snidegrin

I can make it even worse. There's an 8 goal difference in all that (both missed and conceded goals from basic schoolboy errors)  :help.

That's one quarter costing us 8 goals from our own stupidity. We were 28 pts up at 3 quarter time + 8 goals = 12 goal win. Nah, let's be undisciplined idiotic hacks instead and throw the game away :banghead.

Interestingly Riewoldt and Grimes 2 of the main offenders along with Cantstandya, Farts and Miller

Riewoldt needs to pull his fuken head in.  He cost us the West C game last year by giving away stupid free kicks.

Atleast Riewoldt is a result of his age, limited jumping ability. Grimes is still in his physical peak, the first one ok maybe you let it slide because he was diving at full speed, the second one was a dropped uncontested chest mark. He marks that and I’m sure even we would have been able to kill the last 40 seconds remaining. Just panicked which is really unbelievable from someone like him.

It might be a little nit-picky, but at 1.00 mark Edwards over-runs the ball.  Gets back to lay a good tackle on the Suns player who did what with it?  It wasn't a hand ball, not a kick & the ball spilled out - flap flap 'play on' called ... so HTB perhaps?  With a minute to go?     :-\

Excellent work MT.  :clapping

A lot of crap there. Most telling is that our rucks didn’t take the down the line marks they should. It’s frustrating. A ruckman that doesn’t take marks isn’t doing his job.

On the footage that MT provided I’m not sure why the Reiwoldt free kick was for on the wing. Or the Miller free kick in the middle. If someone could help but I can’t see what they are for from that vision provided?
Looks to me to be two bodies colliding at a contest much like Casbolt on Ralphsmith but Miller was said to have infringed in some way. Miller looks like he was just stronger at the contest and pushed his opponent from the side out of the contest to protect his teammate
The club that keeps giving.

Amazing work MT.

With 2 minutes left Tarrant kicks down the line to Witts instead of icing clock. Harsh as he played a good game.

There has been a habit all year what gets to me hasn't been rectify the discipline issues costing us and a few of our senior players keep letting us down.

Well spotted TL. That's #21 to add to the 'list'  :-\.
