I think this is absolutely over kill. A few key points.
1. It's been 4 games.
2. They've been good in all but last game. Hopper was injured and actually played a decent 2nd and 3rd qtr. Went missing in 4th.
3. They have plenty of mates. Prestia has been quiet.
4. I'm not sold that when trading first rounders it's end of the world. We sold future for Prestia and worked out. Just cause of Omera and Wingard examples people are panicking.
5. Our track record of nailing first rounders is ordinary. Lennon, Ellis, Collier Dawkins, Higgins (traded out), Coleman Jones (traded out).
6. Taranto is in same draft as Bolton. Hopper is 1 year older. It's not dinosaurs.
I'm more than happy with this strategy if anything it highlights the issue that from 2017 to 2023 we have 0 first round picks on the list. This was always going to be an issue at some point regardless of Taranto and Hopper trades. The silver lining in this not getting his success in this year or next is that we can do what Hawks have done and on trade them as they are young enough to still have currency.
