There’s a lot of chicken little here - they, with Dees are the best side in comp right now …. in March.
Our system is a little off and most definitely we were outplayed by the Pies but we miss some sitters with K Mac, Lynchx2 and Mansell all missing absolute gifts.
Our set shots were 2 goals 4 behinds to 5 goals 2 in that early part of the last quarter and Pies had 5 rushed points in their 15 behinds for the night.

What that tells me is that their forward did not or were not able to take advantage of their clear midfield class which we have to lend some credit to our defence.

All this while missing Dusty, Hopper, Broad, Short and Tarrant.
They were missing Howe (to me like for like loss with Broad) and Cox (2nd ruck).

We will most likely be 3rd least in points against to the end of round 3.

We must build back from our defence - we have no hope of contending without that springboard and I suspect that is somewhat robbing our midfield system of linking up when ball is in dispute.

Midfield was the glaring problem on Fri nite.

“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Talk about denial. They should have won the game by 10 plus goals and 1 goal to half time just is not good enough.Yep Poor kicking is bad footy so they say but we all know we should have been blown out of the water if they had taken their chances.

Dusty would have made matters worse with his total lack of pressure, Hopper was just finding his feet and yes we missed him to a degree.
Broad and Short should both have been dropped if not for injury and suspension thats how poor they have been imo.Tarrant at 34 is still needed down back but we refuse to play his logical replacement in Miller.

As for the defenders i think Grimes is shot Vlastuin is only just going Broad as mentioned had been poor till suspension. Rioli has been quite after a brilliant first game.

You talk about missing sitters lol with Battlers McIntosh and Mansell you should be expecting it. Their skills are a part of the problem.

The truth is every game so far we have had huge periods where we have been belted and could easily be zero from three.

Hardwick was pretty combative in his post-game. Considering we should have lost by 10 goals he didn't want to hear it -- we just turned it over and didn't take our chances apparently. Not sure about anyone else, but that is not a satisfactory explanation of the game for mine.

There is merit in what Dimma is saying. We turned the ball over 28 times in the first half and from simple errors. That is a lot of ball and hence why Collingwood got so many shots on goal. Dont make those simple errors and the game is more even.

What is being overlooked here is that the players stood up defensively. Plenty to work on.

He also talks about the cause lack of polish and skills but does nothing about it. The errors just wont magically disappear just by talking about them

Give ball to Dusty not Judson and Dust kicks that goal in the second. Cotchin had to handball to Graham late in that second not have a shot (oob) and KMac missed an absolute soda late in that q.
Cumberland had to shoot from 40 not centre the ball to a 50:50 and Lynchx2 and Mansell missed absolute soda pops in that second half.
There are 7 clear goals left on the table.

Pies had half as many easy shots as us.

You are right about one thing - inside 50 conversion is so much more important and while it didn’t cost us this game it absolutely cost us vs Blues.

Not being a smart arse here but i think you have the blinkers on the better team won that game and should have won by a lot more.
Reckon if you spoke to pies fans they would be reeling off the coulda woulda should haves.

In watching the game back, they have a poor forward line. What they did well was win the ball and move it quickly with precision.
Converting that play inside 50 was the issue.

Take your blinkers off and you’ll see the exact same thing.
