“THEY’RE GOING NOWHERE”: RICHMOND SLAMMED FOR EMBARRASSING FRIDAY NIGHT DRUBBINGHugh Fitzpatrick

5 August 2023Richmond’s chances of playing finals look all but over after an embarrassing Friday night performance against the Western Bulldogs.
With their season on the line, the Tigers never looked a chance. They conceded nine first quarter goals which contributed to the final margin of 55 points.
With Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin and Dylan Grimes ruled out before the game, the Tigers’ night wentfrom bad to worse after Jacob Hopper was subbed out with concussion in the second quarter.
Currently sitting a game and percentage out of the eight, Richmond will need plenty of results to go their way if they’re any chance to finals in 2023.
Carlton great Mark Maclure was scathing in his assessment of the Tigers, questioning where the once powerful club is going.
“Richmond haven’t beaten anyone this year, I don’t think they’re in the top echelon of anyone who has beaten anything,” Maclure told SEN Crunch Time.
“The Tigers aren’t doing anything, they’re terrible, they’re ordinary at best, they can’t score.
“They had no Dusty, (Trent) Cotchin and they lost a couple of players, but big deal, you should have enough to get through.
“They’re going nowhere, they’ve got to change a lot of things in their game.
“Anyone that’s any good just bash them.”
The Tigers were busy in the off season, acquiring GWS pair Tim Tarranto and Jacob Hopper to the football club on big bucks.
But they're deals Maclure thinks has hurt the club.
“They brought in Taranto and Hopper, did they get anything else other than that? Wouldn’t they go young?," he added.
“They spent a lot of money on those guys, and that’s hurt them, you need comes to come through you can’t load up on those players.
“Sometimes the vision isn’t right, and that’s where I think they’re out.
“They’ve spent (about) $1.5 million a year on two blokes that are okay without being fantastic and they’re still in a worst place then when they were before, is that a good job?”
The Tigers head back to Marvel Stadium in Round 22 with a date against St Kilda on Sunday afternoon.
