Dual premiership Tiger Kamdyn McIntosh and inside midfielder Thomson Dow have put pen to paper on fresh contracts for the 2025 season.

The new deal will extend McIntosh into his 13th season at Richmond, while Dow, the Club’s first pick at the 2019 AFL Draft is locked in for his sixth year.

McIntosh, 30, played 22 games at senior level this season, averaging 11.5 disposals and seven marks per game on the wing.

The West Australian finished equal 11th in this year’s Jack Dyer Medal, backing up his ninth-place finish in 2023.

McIntosh has played 190 AFL matches at senior level, including over 20 in each of the past three seasons.

Dow played a career-high 17 senior games in 2024, including all the Club’s first 14 matches to take his career tally to 34.

The 23-year-old averaged 15.6 disposals, 3.4 clearances and 7.8 contested possessions per match this season.

Richmond General Manager- Football Talent, Blair Hartley said that McIntosh and Dow had worked hard for their contract extensions.

“Kamdyn’s durability has been fantastic in recent years, and he has continually played his role for the team. He is a popular member of the group, and we are happy to have him commit further to Richmond,” Hartley said.

“Thomson took a step forward this season by playing 17 games at AFL level, we are looking forward to seeing what he can achieve in 2025.

“Both Kamdyn and Thomson help to drive standards and are excellent team-first players, we look forward to having their leadership around the group going into 2025.”

All the kids we pick up in the draft could do a lot worse than to learn training standards from someone as professional as Kamdyn.

Reality is we had 10 players come off the list through trades, retirements, delistings which is over 20%. There’s only so many players a club can turn over each year while still being able to meet the minimum list size requirements. Some players who some deem past it or not good enough to begin with end up getting new contracts to meet the minimum list size requirements.

I’d imagine we’ll see similar turnover for the next 2-3 seasons as more senior players retire, fringe players are delisted and the clubs invests heavily in the draft to replace them.

All jokes aside

The last paragraph of the RFC press release is sickening

I understand they can’t say “Thomson is somewhat nervy and occasionally can’t be bothered to chase or even genuinely try” .. but come on

Sets the standard

Oh man I just read the actual RFC article. Thought you were alluding to my post when talking about Dow. That’s my bad

I wonder how many of these types of media releases are just done using ChatGPT rather than putting any actual thought into it.
