Yes but on field. People overlook that he’ll be 50% playing and 50% coaching next year. It’s a gift to have him marshalling our next generation in our most vulnerable part of the field
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

absolutely. Another year for me.

He is a born leader and future coach. We get rid of him, fair chance he will seek a coaching opportunity elsewhere.

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

By this comment, is it common knowledge that meatball isn't playing every game and will have an official coaching role on match says, or is this just hope and speculation?
Great job by the club if he is 50/50.

Probably wise too, given our small draft hand, requirement to pay minimum TPP, and soft cap limitation (which is admittedly increasing).

I think while not official, it is obvious that is his role?  He is certainly not going to be there when we are going to next contend so besides taking a pay cheque that would be the logical and sensible option.

Confirmed on the RFC website.

Prestia set for 10th season in Yellow and Black

Dion Prestia has signed on for the 2026 season.

Aug 29, 2025

Richmond midfielder Dion Prestia has been locked in for a 10th season at the Club and 16th in the AFL.

The 32-year-old has put pen to paper on a fresh contract for 2026 after a strong finish to his 2025 campaign.

Prestia overcame an Achilles injury to play 12 consecutive games at AFL level, where he averaged 22.9 disposals and 4.4 clearances.

The 2019 Jack Dyer Medallist was particularly impressive in games against finals bound teams GWS (31 disposals, seven clearances and one goal), Adelaide (29 disposals and nine clearances) and Geelong (28 disposals and two goals).

Off the field, Prestia has been like an additional coach for Adem Yze to rely on, with his experience and knowledge invaluable for a young group.

Prestia has played 142 games for Richmond across the past nine seasons, taking his career tally to 237 matches and putting him within striking distance of a 250th match in 2026.

Richmond Executive General Manager, Football Talent, Blair Hartley, said it was exciting to have Prestia locked in for a 10th year at the Club.

“We are rapt to have Dion locked in for another year at the Club, he continues to be a highly valuable player for us and will play an important role for us next season,” he said.

“Our young players will continue to learn a lot from Dion, and we are looking forward to seeing what next year holds for him as a key part of our group.”

There’s value in keeping him around, but it’s the last year no doubt.

Will probably spend half of it injured too.

Just my opinon but I don't see the value in this compared to others. Can't this be just as effective from the bench? And then free up a playing spot for a kid to gain experience?

Watch the interview with Luke Hodge on Front Bar. I actually cannot believe people don’t see the value in experienced players teaching young kids on field. So much happens in a game. It cannot be completely taught from a bench or a coaches box.
