Unleash the Geisch from umpiring
« on: July 29, 2006, 02:47:09 AM »
Giesch couldn't coach an AFL side and he's doing as good a job with the umps.

Last night's Pies vs Hawks game was a umpiring farce in the first half as far as physical contact was concerned.

For those who didn't see the incidents the first one was a miked McBurney accusing Luke Hodge of "throwing a punch" and penalising him 50m when the replay showed nothing but a slight open-handed tap to the back of his opponent's thigh as they were getting off the ground.

The second incident was a Hawk kick-in that Jordan Lewis got first hands to as he and Justin Davies flew for the ball. They both collided and Davies was paid a free purely because he makes JON look like Mr Universe.

Both decisions gifted the Pies goals. Now they didn't affect the result as the Hawks were a rabble but seriously what the hell are they paying frees for this kind of stuff  ???. The umps should just concentrate on paying frees for obvious infringements and ignore any incidental and ticky touchwood contact.
