I would have waited until the end of the season.

I didn’t think he made any improvements last season and can certainly see him playing plenty of VFL this year as thecubs go past him.

Absolutely

Even wait until mid season

Really don't understand the fixation on this guy that some people have

I really dont understand the hate some people have

Defended Jack plenty over the last few years. I think he played some good footy at times. Last year as a mature player I thought he was a bit disappointing. Not just him

Something has to give with our midfield. I think there's still a spot for Ross if he plays well enough and obviously the club rated him. I'd really like to see more of Hotton and Lalor in there though

In clearly in the minority but I thought 2025 was easily his best season

Coaches give him a role and he does it. Simple really.

I said in this very thread I expected him to finish top 10 in the B&F (think iwas the only one) and he did.

I get that most don't like that referencing but players get given roles. They do what the Coaches want they get rewarded. Bloke is seen as a emerging leader at the Club by his peers so he must be doing something right.

No issue with the extension. Congrats Jack

He still goes missing against the stronger teams which will always hold him back in the eyes of some. That first game against Carlton was incredible and never hit those lofty heights again whixh was a bummer for me.

It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

Geez, never thought an opinion about Jack Ross would have people questioning my footy knowledge.

He is being played out of position on the wing, other than a good aerobic capacity, he doesnt have any of the traits that make a good wingman and the club clearly don’t have a spot for him in midfield. He doesn’t have pace, his ball use is avg, he isn’t tall / a good contested mark that can cut off long kicks down the line.

We know what we’re going to get with him, it’s the same issue I have with HRS. Do you keep playing these middle agers knowing they’ve more likely then not hit their ceiling or do you try giving the kids a run on the wing, kids whose touted attributes are more suited to that position. Maybe those kids aren’t ready and end up going back to VFL but I’d rather see them tested out and given a chance then just playing guys who more often then not give you the same 4-6/10 performance every week.

Reading posts no one is hating Ross it bemuses me when people talk that way is it to create a deflection?

What i do get from reading the thread is most people think he is a okay player who has more talented players we hope will go past him.

If those players don't go past him then we have recruited wrong and are in trouble.
The expectation of most is pretty clear. Lalor, Smillie, Hotton Cumming Grlj  are expected to be very good players for us can say the same with McAuliffe to a lesser degree. Who in his right mind doesnt think we should be playing and prioritising these kids anyone?

We then look at our experienced mids and ask who is a better player than Ross. Well its simple Taranto, Hopper and Prestia quite simply are and remain better mids than him.

So as a mid where does it leave us and Ross.?

I did this as an example of how our kids are tracking. Pick 40 Kane McAuliffe is probably the one most would pick Ross in front of when all our mids are fit and ready. Kane imo is more an inside beast who does have very good traits for transitioning from inside to out.
Jack is coming off his best year statistically at least.so i thought why not compare the closest competition for a mid spot that he has in McAuliffe.

Remember we have had Kane for just two very injury interrupted seasons he is yet to get a clear run at it to date. but his power pace,  size and strength are tantalizing attributes along with his crunching tackling.
He only managed 5 senior games last year because of all the niggles so its a small sample size.He also did not get huge game time.
         DIS - CP - MKS - TKL - CLR - I50 - GLS -
Ross 19,1 - 7.0 - 4.4  - 3.8 -  3.1 - 4.0 -  0.17 -
McA  18.4 - 7.6 - 4.0 -  4.8 -  2.0 - 2.8 -  0.00 -

In just his second year and off both years being injury interrupted albeit off a small sample size McAuliffe has basically produced a similar year to Ross and its supposed to be Ross's best year to date.

This is why you try and play kids with good attributes over players who have no real upside imo who after what entering year 8 coming off his best season that is still only okay.

Like Andy there is no hate i to just don't rate him as highly as some others and think we can replace him reasonably easy.
