so if they are trialling for the last Cat B spot, it means OHB is gone

Ohb cannot be cat b again either way

But can he be a put on our other rookie list?

Not sure but there isn’t a difference between cat A rookie and senior list as they both count towards the overall list limit whereas cat B sits outside of it. Honestly afl just need to do away with the rookie list, it serves no purpose anymore and certainly not what the afl intended it for.

The difference is that Cat A rookie's can have shorter contracts, not the mandatory 2-3 years for draftees, and the base salary is paid outside of the TPP. So it's a good way to take a punt without drafting someone to a 2 year contract, and if you wanted to extend a rookie vs a draftee during their 1st year on the list if they were doing well then at least the base wage for the rookie years is excluded for TPP etc.

Carlow GAA ace looking forward to testing himself out in AFL trial after impressing at initial effort

AFL target John Phiri admits he is not sure if he will be playing for Carlow in 2027.

The NFL Division 4 winner is set for a trial at oval-ball outfit Richmond after impressing at a scouting combine in Athlone in August.

Phiri beat off competition from Dublin duo Charlie McMorrow and Tim Deering, and Leitrim star Barry McNulty, to land the ticket to Oz.

He will join Kerry’s All-Ireland U-20 FC winner Evan Boyle in travelling to Richmond next month.

Phiri made his Carlow senior debut at 18 in 2024 and fired 1-2 for the Carlow Town hurlers last weekend in their county IHC final win.

The Barrowside defender told KCLR that trying out for Richmond is too good a chance to pass up.

He said: “That’s what it is — it’s an opportunity and I’m going to see how that goes. Whatever is meant to be, will be. I could be here next year, I might not be.”

Phiri missed the first five games of Carlow’s Division 4 campaign this year with an osteitis pubis injury but started every game thereafter.

Its funny we can look at two irishmen who have never played the game but we cannot go deep in a deep draft.

Maybe if they put some time into looking at kids who actually play the game we will improve.

Yes they are cat B im being a bit facetious.
