SCANS today will determine whether the Richmond forward has an early end to the season.

Tiger coach Terry Wallace said yesterday Brown would have scans on his injured hamstring today.

``He'll have the scans and obviously it depends on what damage he has done as to how long he'll be out,'' Wallace said.

``If it's a two-week hammy, he'd probably continue on. But if it's a four-week injury, it would finish him off.''

With only five home-and-away games remaining, Brown hinted yesterday that his season could end prematurely.

Brown, who broke his leg last year, has played 10 matches this season.

He returned in Round 1, but soreness forced him to take a  seven-game break from Rounds 3-11.
A rod which he had inserted in his broken leg has to be removed before the start of next season.

While Brown said he would be disappointed to miss the rest of the year, he is looking forward to having the rod removed and an injury-free 2007.

``As a player you would love to be out there playing,'' Brown said on the Sunday Footy Show.

``But looking at it the best thing to do would maybe be to start looking towards next year, having the rod taken out and getting a real fitness base.''

Brown said it was the first hamstring injury he had suffered during his 177-game career.

``I led out and felt a grab in my left hammy about 10m before I got to the ball.''

Wallace said Brown's body had not been right for the entire season.

Brown's loss capped off a horrible day for the Tigers, who were thrashed by St Kilda by 103 points, their third loss of more than 100 points for the year.

The last time a side suffered three century-plus defeats in one season was in 1996, when Fitzroy lost four matches by over 100 points and Melbourne three.

Before Saturday's game Richmond was forced to replace key defenders Darren Gaspar (knee), Andrew Kellaway (hamstring) and forward Andrew Krakouer (finger).

Gaspar is a chance to return against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday.

GEELONG and Richmond received encouraging news on the injury front today with stars Gary Ablett and Nathan Brown expected to return to action before the finals series.

Brown's hamstring injury is not as bad as first feared.

Brown had a change of heart from yesterday, when he admitted he had begun thinking about getting ready for next season after he strained his hamstring in Richmond's loss to St Kilda last Saturday.

But after scans revealed the damage was not as bad as first feared, Brown is likely to be sidelined for only two games and said he wanted to keep playing if his side was still a chance of playing in September.

"While we're still a chance to play finals I'd give myself every chance to get back," Brown said.

Geelong and Richmond occupy ninth and 10th spots on the ladder and are two games behind eighth-placed Fremantle, and need to win at least four of their last five games to be any chance of reaching the finals.

RICHMOND star Nathan Brown's season is not over yet with the injury-plagued forward determined to return from a hamstring injury.

With finals football still a mathematical possibility for the Tigers, Brown will be given every chance to return from injury for the Tigers' must-win games against Essendon and West Coast in the last two rounds.

Brown said his immediate playing future was up to the club doctors and coaches but refused to resign himself to the sidelines for the rest of the season.

"If it's not that bad I'll do my best to play again," Brown said yesterday. "We're still a chance to play finals so I'll give myself every chance to get back."

Brown injured his hamstring in the second quarter of the Tigers' 103-point loss to St Kilda at the MCG on Saturday.

Richmond football manager Paul Armstrong said the injury was a minor-grade strain which would rule Brown out for no longer than three weeks.

"It definitely won't be the end of the season for (Brown)," Armstrong said.

Brown returned in Round 1 after breaking his leg last season before soreness in the leg forced him to miss seven weeks after Round 3.
