Are injuries an excuse for us?
« on: July 24, 2006, 04:05:51 AM »
When you add up who's out injured, who's obviously well below 100% fit and who's out suspended, we had arguably 6 "best 22?" missing plus 2 well underdone against the Swans - Newman, Cogs, Thursfield, Joel, Hall and Knobel + Browny and Richo.

Last year we seemed to use Browny's absence as a reason for us falling away in the second half of the year. It looks like on current form we're falling away again.

Are injuries as an excuse for the past 2 dismal efforts against top 4/8 sides?

I reckon the blokes "not 100%" is spot on the money- we have them. It looked like on Saturday night that again Browny is feeling the pich again and Richo - well I am at loss to understand why he played. He favoured his wrist for the entire game :-\

I think it shows depth wise we have a fair way to go..

As for the performances agaisnt Melbourne wwe got beated by a far better side. As for the Swans I don't think we got beaten by a far better team - actaully I don't know because we were just so poor across the board

I think you're spot on WP to say we still don't have the depth. Our best 22 at their best all season would probably sneak us into the top 8 a la like the Pies but a few key injuries on top of the youngsters feeling the pinch of a full season is taking its toll.

The Swans are a better side or at least a stronger side physically. We were outmuscled all night in the contests.

No I don't think so...

...but we did miss Cogs and Newman on Saturday night. Cogs was made for those conditions.

So true MT - they looked massive against some our blokes who just looked like little "pip squeaks" :lol

It was like Andy Raines against O'Laughlin - body on body Rainesy was always going to struggle (and did), however when it came to O'Loughlin on the lead Raines more than held his own.

Actually it was one of the things that stood out in the Coburg game too. Sandy are a very exeperienced side both in years and size and against some of our young blokes eg Hughes, Oakley-Nicholls etc it stood out. Not meant to be a criticism of the players just highlights the amount of work they'll need this coming pre-season in the gym to bulk up - it doesn't happen in 1 pre-season

I can take Razor's name out after today lol but add Browny, Gas, Kellaway, Krak and others sore and we are being hammered with injuries. Still no excuses for today's "effort" or lack of.

injuries are no excuse, u have 22 blokes and if all put in like richo and sugar we will be a better side. its all about being mentally and physically strong and playting as a team, hunting in numbers! we just dont do that enough!!!

we have too many physically weak players, and the rare few that are physically strong are pentally weak and as dumb as dog poo!

i watched the bombers last night, sheedy is right, the bombers are below us on the ladder but are closer to being a top team than us, they played hard tough and have players not scared to get hurt, they have a better game plan and bigger bodies, our ladder position is flattering us.
