TERRY Wallace might deny it but Rodney Eade is under no illusions that Ryan Griffen's name will have been heard more than any other at Punt Road Oval this week.
The young footballing innocent mentioned on radio after the Bulldogs' 115-point belting of Richmond in round one that Richmond had given up.
"Terry the master of the motivational tools at his disposal will use Ryan Griffen's comments from last time, there is no doubt," Bulldogs coach Eade said.
Wallace has said he no longer puts players "in the gun" for special physical and verbal attention in a game. But the Dogs speculated before the round-one match that Griffen would likely be the one to be targeted by the Tigers and they figure after his comments post-match in round one he will likely attract attention again.
"There's a fair chance of that (Griffen being put in the gun). Last time apparently we got their game plan so we will have to try to seek the same person and see if we can get their game plan again.
"But I would imagine (he would be in the gun) and I would imagine they would be playing Ryan Griffen's comments but hopefully Terry plays his own and his captain's comments from last time as well. They were very similar, so we will see what happens," Eade said.
Eade also suggested that the ill-feeling between Wallace and his former captain Chris Grant as he breaks the club's games record would further needle Wallace's desire for a win and add spice — and spite — to the match.
Grant and Wallace have long had a frosty relationship.
This week when interviewed on Fox Footy's On The Couch about his career in preparation for becoming the club's longest-serving player, Grant paid tribute to those who had helped him but mentioned he had learnt more in Eade's first season than in all of his previous 14.
