Joke of a game
« on: July 10, 2004, 03:31:49 PM »
What a joke
The umpiring. Matthew Lloyd can hold a Richmond player who takes a mark and not get a 50m penalty and yet Chris Newman does the same and gets the 50m. Joel Bowden marks the ball but the umpire does nothing and the Bummers get the goal. And that last Matthew Lloyd free kick - please!!! Best sight was seeing Richo charging through the pack and Fleming kicking the goal. What's the go with Schultz? Is he hurt badly?? Pity it wasn't Lloyd who went off the ground sick instead of Hird.

Easily the worst umpiring of the season.

It gets worse with every passing year.

How soft was that!  >:(  I'd guess we shouldn't be surprised. After playing hard flowing footy in the first half, we come out after half time asleep. Second to the ball, going wide, over-possessing! Same old, same old. The last half was us going wide and bombing the ball to Richo outnumbered. Essendon switch play to the other side and run it down the other end for an easy goal. Repeat that 17 times  >:(.

Funny how Richo comes back into the side and we become predictable by always trying to pass to him even if there's a bomber player in front of him. Or where one of our blokes is 40 metres out on his own and just has to slot the goal yet still decides to pass! WTF  ???. So much for the aim of the game of kicking the ball between the two big sticks. Geez footy isn't rocket science ::)

Gawd we know how to put other sides back into form  :-\.

A truer word has never been spoken Mighty.

The whole team and game plan evolve around him and its totally ridiculous.
When i say game plan I use the term loosely (about as loose as the boys would be feeling right now).

We are a far more free-flowing side when he is out and the team doen't have to play the Richo game.

I thought he played prety well today taking out players and his 2nd efforts were present but we cant sustain his game
cos we dont have the cattle or the tactical prowess to support it.

Richo getting 6 ,7 however many goals is negated by the fact that when he does no-one else gets a decent opportunity

The sad thing is, Richo is generally the only forward who constantly presents. THAT is why we always kick to hime. The rest of the forward line is lazy, much like the rest of the team in general.
My parents bought me a Richmond jumper and enrolled me in a junior footy clinic in 1981...look at me now.

I agree with what you say Gibby. I'm not knocking Richo. His workrate is fantastic.

When Richo is not out there, other forwards are forced to present and those upfield are forced to look for other options apart from just one.

As Ox says our "gameplan" when Richo is at FF is all based around him and we suffer from the one-dimensional effects that has on the whole side. Ironically the Bombers were in the same boat in the first half, always going to the olympic diving champion. Once they in the second half got run through the lines they found multiple options to score and tripled their score with Lloyd only getting 2 or 3 of the 17 second half goals they kicked. Doesn't matter how great your FF is, you won't win too many games relying on one person to kick a winning score. Sadly we've been doing it for the last 10 years  :P

Just to add I remember looking at the stats on the scoreboard at 3/4 time and we had 7 more inside 50's even though we were 6 goals down. No wonder we crawl to an average of 10 goals a game  :-\. Hopefully our inefficiency is one thing our new coach will rectify next year no matter who he is.

What I saw was a classic example of why Frawley is not a good coach, he couldn't change gear and tinker with the game plan to combat the Dons onslaught. I don't know how many games Ive seen over the last 2 years were we can get a good start and the opposition coaches have been able to come up with strategies to reverse the situation and come out on top. Have we ever been able to do it, NO. Honestly if we win another game this year it will be through luck rather than good management. I'm starting to believe that any of the games we have won over the last 5 years has been purely through player ability rather than any pre determined strategy from those in charge, there pre determined strategy (game plan) Is more than likely 90% of why we are so bad.

Joke of a game. Thanks to a Joke of a coach.  I think if they have picked his replacement for next year they should tell Danny to get to Bungaree and let them assess the squad in the real thing.

If Danny has resigned why not say thanks and tell him to go.  Donot letter Brittain and anyone other assistant coach them lets get on with the build up for next year now.   I suppose the only thing we are risking are our priority picks, I suppose if Miller wants this pick we will stick with Danny.

Frawley is the second most witless coach in the league behind Schwabby.

I was  away at halls gap but still managed to sneak over to a tv at half time, considerably excited that we had a lead and the commentators were saying quite positive things about our play in the first half.
To sit thru the next half was deja vu yet again.
Life is an experience.DANNY HAS NOT LEARNED FROM HIS EXPERIENCES.Those experiences arenot far away either i.e the run on north had after half time
Once again nothing was done to halt the Bombers run.stuff not even an oldtfashioned flood to cramp Lloyd and all his buddies.
We do indeed have an amazing habit of making very average teams look brilliant.
Also the absolute audacity chippendale had to try and run through Johnson was deplorable.
Geezus bring on the end of this season before i organise another truckload of cow dung to land on the Punt Rd doorstep
