Richo fit for first round
10 March 2007   Herald-Sun
Gareth Trickey

RICHMOND star Matthew Richardson will be fit and ready for the first game of the regular season, according to Richmond football operations manager Paul Armstrong.

And ruckman Troy Simmonds is also on track to play the Round 1 MCG match against Carlton on April 1 after a lengthy lay-off from a broken ankle sustained at training on January 15.

"Their schedule was set for Round 1, so being ahead of that we're confident they'll play," Armstrong said.

Richardson over-stretched his right hamstring during the club's NAB Cup loss to Geelong on February 25.

The key forward is likely to remain sidelined for the next two weeks as he gradually returns to full-training. Armstrong dismissed claims Richardson's lack of pre-season match time would hinder his 2007 season.

"His match form comes around very quickly," he said. "His training form was very good prior to him hurting himself a couple of weeks ago, so if anything the break might freshen him up a touch."

Richo certain and Simmo "an even-money bet" for first round - Wallace
« Reply #2 on: March 10, 2007, 07:36:39 PM »
Wallace said .... his biggest concern was whether the likes of Simmonds (ankle) and Richardson would be fit for round one.

"Matthew is certain (for round one). There's no problem with Matthew, his hamstring will be 30-odd days by that stage. Whether we play him in lead-up games will depend on how he's travelling and how he's progressing," Wallace said.

"Troy is an even-money bet."
