What we need before making the next step?
« on: April 08, 2007, 06:15:17 AM »
We need our youngsters to make the step from being good minders to being ballwinners who can change the mood and momentum of the game. Lids showed a glimpse of that future yesterday. We still have a situation where our best players most weeks are mainly taggers and stoppers. Now taggers and stoppers are important and Gas on Hall and Polo on Goodes were very good and Tuck shut down Kirk. But to win games consistently and become a serious contender we need to see in the paper the next morning that the majority of our best players each week were our playmakers. Hopefully this will come in time as the young cubs gain more experience and games under their belt.

Snake and Browny will automatically come in but the others need to show good form at Coburg before getting their chance. We made Foley and Polo do their time in the VFL and they all the better for it. Agree X that we can't have both Tuck and Sugar in the centre together. Tuck shut down Kirk and the captain did fairly well in the 3rd quarter but if anything yesterday showed we can match sides and even cause them problems when we use our young guys who have pace in the midfield and can break through the lines.
