If an Eagle player(s) stuffs up again off-field, West Coast could lose their draft picks or premiership points:

Eagles could lose points, draft picks

The Age

THE AFL has not ruled out charging West Coast with bringing the game into disrepute and punishing the club by removing draft picks or, more drastically, stripping the Eagles of premiership points.

The AFL Commission has summoned the errant premier to league headquarters in Melbourne on Sunday, but it is believed that four days ago, the commissioners raised the possibility of taking early draft picks from the club, before settling on a verbal confrontation with the club.

The prevailing view among the commissioners was that the Eagles' behaviour during and in the aftermath of the derby against Fremantle was the final straw and that a general penalty under rule 1.6 (bringing the game into disrepute) could be imposed on the club.

It was agreed that a financial punishment would be inappropriate for such a wealthy club and that the removal of draft picks — previously reserved for clubs found guilty of cheating the salary cap — would send a clearer message.

While the Eagles will not be charged under the AFL rules on Sunday, it is understood that the AFL's governing body will indicate that any further transgression from the club could result in the removal of premiership points.
