Newman on SEN
« on: January 15, 2008, 12:47:44 PM »
Newy was briefly on SEN after midday talking about receiving the vice-captaincy.

* Cogs is training fully. Great to have him back out there. He's such a hard nut and everyone lifts when he is out on the ground.

* Talked about that goal against Freo. Obviously a stand out for him as he hasn't kicked too many goals in his time. Not sure if he could do it again as he just went for it and got onto it.

I missed the first part of the interview. A poster on Y&B has more.

* up to all players with 3-4 years plus experience to perform and not leave it up to the youngsters.

* Cotchin progressing well in rehab, looking forward to utilising his excellent skills on both sides in the midfield

* Gourdis beat Lids with a time of 2.68 seconds in the latest beep tests (sounds like more the 20m sprint). Fastest at the Club now.

* Lids has put more into this preseason than any other previous, and is looking fantastic. He is now the strongest at the club as far as bench pressing goes.

192/3cm tall and still the fastest  :o. If we can tidy up his kicking he's going to be deadly.

Fingers crossed on Cogs  :pray.

Absolutely.
A fit Cogs will make a massive difference to our midfield set-up but I'll keep expectations in check for now.

Do you think Newman can take the next step from a slightly leaky HBF with great disposal to a regular midfielder MT?
I sure hope so.

I really like Chris as a footballer & potential leader. I am very happy he's been made (vc) for this year.
I hope he has a fantastic season in '08.

He's probably has the endurance to do it but I don't mind Newy remaining as one of our back six. He provides some experience down there and building a stable backline is important IMO as all good sides have a strong stable defence and defenders need time to jell together and understand each other. I wouldn't want us chopping and changing our backline too much every year.
