Coughlan ready for round one

Sportal

Star Richmond midfielder Mark Coughlan has put his hand up to play in the Tigers' AFL season opener against Carlton in nine days time after successfully negotiating his senior comeback following two successive knee re-constructions.

"It's not just a case of stepping in there," he said.

"I have got to prove myself and that might mean (returning in) round one but it could mean round ten - who knows."

"But I am certainly feeling reasonable as far as my body goes and after three or four games you start to get your match fitness back up."

Richmond coach Terry Wallace said the Tigers had yet to decide whether to play Coughlan in the season opener.

"When he is ready to go, he is ready to go but whether that is round one or round six that is still to be determined."

If his form deems he is in the best 22 for round 1 he plays round 1.

Me thinks there maybe a few ahead of him.

True Jack, but Simmonds was a pre-season injury wasnt it and was rushed back?

Rather with Cogs who has had over the normal time for a knee recovery and seems right on track after a few praccys?

If Cogs misses round 1 it won't be due to his knee or any injury. It'll be more due to form so it's not like Simmo last year. Whether Cogs is fit and match fit yet to play full-on in the seniors. No point playing him yet if he can only pick up a few possessions off the bench each week and everyone starts bagging him.

Cogs was on SEN today after midday with Mark Doran. Didn't really say anything we haven't heard before but yeah he said again he's not sure if he's playing round 1. Basically said he's feeling fine and confident in the body but it'll take time to adjust to the speed of AFL footy.
