Pressure skills a key in modern footy
« on: April 22, 2008, 04:27:45 PM »
One of the things Royal told the high school footy team watching training today is that while the offensive side of the game comes naturally it is pressure skills that have risen enormously in recent years. He said Mitch Morton and Shane Edwards are in the side simply for their excellent pressure skills while some other players (no names) have made way because they haven't given us these pressure skills and haven't needed to do it previously in their career. Chocco then switched to Cyril Rioli at Hawthorn saying he's in their side at such a young age purely because he is a gun at pressure skills.

I think we know which Tigers have made way due their lack of applied pressure.

Gee, are the coaching staff actually trying to pee Joel off. Perhaps it will bring out the best in him  :-\ (Not that I disagree with what they are saying)

Yeah, might be part of a plan to reduce or manage the chance of the younger players developing the same bad habits that the previous dynasties allowed to cultivate.  Just a thought.

Mentioning Morton and Edwards targets more someone with the initials KP but yep Joel is in the gun at the moment. I didn't see Joel smiling much today either although he did say hello to and shake hands with someone he knew standing next to the race.
