157 point anniversary tonight
« on: May 06, 2008, 07:38:58 PM »
A bit of irony our next game is against Geelong given a year ago tonight was that 157 point disaster. Around 15 Tigers shouldn't need any further motivation in 11 days time.

RICHMOND  1.1     2.7    5.9      9.11-65
GEELONG   10.2   20.6   29.9    35.12-222

B:      Newman         McGuane         Moore
HB:    Bowden            Polak             Raines
C:      Johnson          Deledio             King
HF:    Jackson           Hughes           Meyer
F:      Tambling          Schulz          Richardson
R:    Simmonds     Oakley-Nicholls      Foley
Int: Tuck, Pettifer, White, Hyde

EMG: Howat, Edwards, Riewoldt

In: White, Moore, Meyer
Out: Tivendale (omit), Edwards (omit), Gaspar (ret.)

Bold - played in that game and are in the current 22.

lol

Just saying a certain group of players owe the club and need to make up for that humilation in 11 days time. A test against the best side in the league to show how much we really have improved by.

Might be an anniversary for all the wrong reasons on field but on the flip side may be seen in years to come as the on field turn around slowly but surely.

Agree. Geelong were awesome. On par with their GF effort. It was the game that showed how footy should be played and the start of their premiership run. Painful to be on the receiving end of it (numbing watching it live :-X ) but it was valuable lesson on where our cubs had to strive to get to. They sure weren't getting that lesson from most of our senior group at the time.

It was also the beginning of a new backline. Probably the first game in 8 years without both Gas and Chubba as tall defenders. McGuane and Moore couldn't handle it that night as our backline was non-existent (non-existent midfield didn't help either) but with Thursty back this year we're slowly putting together a new back six. Rance still yet to come in as well once he further develops.

IIRC Lids once had just 1 handball in the first half against Ling and Blingers injured his shoulder early on after being crunched in a strong tackle by Bartel. Funny how we rightly didn't whinge about that tackle yet Lyon and Shaw now sook this week about McGuane's tackle on St Nick  ::). Anyway Lids and Blingers will surely be tested again by the solid bodies of the Cats' midfield. A chance again to test themselves against the best.

I'm a little worried about this game and what it could do to our percentage.

The Cats have been off the boil of late, and if I remember correctly they were off the boil before we played them last year.... I even tipped us to beat them  :o

We might be the team to get them back into their menacing form, or  :pray we could be the team to knock them off and sting them back into their menacing form.

Might not come against the Cats but I reckon we might dish out a hiding of our own soon enough.

The Freo victory was a taste of things to come. We could quite easily have won the Bullies and Aints games.

Another big victory is not far away IMO.
