Tuesdays with Terry / Richo not 100%
« on: May 27, 2008, 01:49:08 PM »
SEN played a clip of Wallace today confirming Richo wasn't right last week with a knee injury and hardly trained. Said Richo was nowhere near 100% fit against the Bombers either. He's not right yet but he's in better shape than last week.

That's not good! We need him playing at 100% to give us an chance against the Swans gameplan. Goodes will have a field day if Richo can't move at full pace.

Perhaps we should just rest the big fellow for a week and open up the spot for another player?

Richo 'good as gold' for Swans: Wallace

RICHMOND power-forward/midfielder/icon Matthew Richardson is battling a jarred knee, but he's going to be fine for this weekend's tough clash with the Swans.

Tigers coach Terry Wallace said the superstar was improving by the day.

"He struggled last week – he'd had a problem with his knee for the whole week, he virtually didn't train for the whole week," Wallace said on Tuesday.

"He's certainly better this week, leading into this week's game. Even on the weekend, just prior when the boys were doing the warm up before the match, he had to sneak up the race to get another injection into his knee.

"So he's playing under a bit of sufferance, but it's certainly settled down as they do at times. And he certainly will be better served coming into this week's game than what he was last week."

Wallace said he anticipated the injury would keep improving without the Tigers having to take any special precautions.

"We're expecting that if he doesn't get any further problems with it, it'll just get better and better from this stage onwards. He just jarred it up in the previous game, and it just took a little bit of time to settle down.

"He didn't do any further damage last week, and it's actually settled down a heck of a lot better this week than where it was last week."

With the 33-year-old in his 16th season, Wallace said he wasn't worried about him missing a couple of weeks on the track.

"He's good as gold. He's a guy who's naturally fit. I know he's going to prepare himself 100 per cent right, and the manner in which he's playing at the moment -- he's getting his work levels and fitness component on gameday anyway.

"So for a week or two where he's really just getting his body right to come up for the next week, we have no real drama with it all."

from SEN

* Terry was with Foley at the media conference.

* Richo - (see above article). If he doesn't get any further problems we expect it to settle down. Spoke down Richo's Brownlow chances (see other thread).

* Foley said Richo has responded well to playing on the wing and is vibrant as ever around the club.

* Plough said on the Brownlow re: Mitchell - we'd do the same thing. The team always comes first. It could be the difference between a top 2 spot.

* Terry was very pleased with Petts. Leading goal assist on the night and much better defensively in his efforts. He said he's happy with all those who have come into the side recently which includes Joel as well obviously.

* Tivs is fantastic and playing great footy in the ressies. We won't make bold statements about our players. If an opportunity opens up in the side then there'll be an opportunity for someone to come in. The thing is we haven't had injuries and the side has been in reasonable form.

* Foley said he's looking for continued improvement in himself. Coming off the rookie list might give you more hunger but it's really up to the individual how you respond.

* Terry said we haven't put in our subsmission on the interchange. All we said was we would be making a submission. In fact 2 submissions - 1) about recent rules and 2) to continue with 4 interchange. We have no plans to change the rules at the moment. Prefer them not to be there obviously but we'll work with it and thought we handled it reasonably well on the weekend.

* Team's improvement? Foley said the progression has been over a long period of time even last year. The Freo game we seemed to click as a group plus the increase in tackling pressure seems to be behind the improvement.

cant understand why teams play injured players
if Richo did his knee against Essendon it would have been career ending
Hughes could have come into the side just for a run & let Richo rest
we got heaps of players who can play on the wing
Reminds me of the way Geishein used to coach & play injured players, sometimes leaving them on the ground limping
remember Daffy screaming to come off the ground with a knee, he could hardly walk & they ignored him
this type of stuff is damaging for the club when playing anyone whos not 100% fit

Foley expects road trip to inspire Tigers

YOUNG Richmond gun Nathan Foley says the team is looking forward to getting out on the road this weekend, as they trek to the harbour city to take on the Swans.

A road trip was a fun thing for the players, the 22-year-old said.

"Absolutely, we all enjoy getting away," he said. "Spending a lot of time together – eating tea, getting up and having breakfast and all that together, so it's a good experience, and a lot of the boys enjoy getting interstate."

It's no wonder Foley likes the road this year – the Tigers have only made one trip this season, albeit the long one to Subiaco, and they smashed the Dockers to the sweet tune of 64 points, a result he says gave them confidence heading into a tough month and a tough match interstate this weekend.

"Like Terry (Wallace, Richmond coach) said, we don't go on past things too much, but as always, we go into the game confident and trying to win, just looking for that continued improvement, through the likes of Shane Edwards, and Matty White, and Richard Tambling and all these blokes.”

Despite the Tigers having just three wins and a draw after nine rounds, Foley said the team was winning back the respect it had lost in recent years.

"Yeah, the way the way we're going about our football, in terms of tackling pressure and just the way we're attacking the footy, I think is definitely gaining back a bit of respect throughout the rest of the league.

"A lot of hard work went in over the preseason and it has definitely been a progression over a long period of time.

"I think when we went over to Perth and played Fremantle, we clicked quite well as a group, and just the increase in tackle pressure and that sort of stuff helped the penny drop a bit."

The problem is Richo would say he's okay. I mean if he's willing to play with a smashed up face as he did last year then as long as he can still move around he'll want to play.

well thats where team & club make bad judgements
that what damages the likes of Coughlans when medical staff get it wrong
Medical staff have always been idiots down at Richmond anyway
if Richo cant walk at training on a Friday he should be ruled out point blank
if he needs injections after the game warmup thats tells a story in itself
& what if he did more damage to that knee but couldnot feel the damage until it was way to late
Richo is not bigger than the Richmond Football Club & Terry Wallace shows his stupidity at not clamping down on it
The game was not that important to risk him, (Essendon were rabble ) there are other players that can play his role just as well
l can see Richo going down with a season ending injury  :'( ( watch this space )

Richo trained last week (Friday). He just looked proppy after every time he got the ball.

We also know he's a show for the Brownlow and that he needs to play every H/A game this and next year to bring up the magical 300. He is also only 9 goals off passing KB on the club's goalkicking list. He won't be part of our next premiership yet there's a few individual achievements he can strive for and deserves along the way so he's got nothing to lose.
