Coach craves consistency

LIKE most sides that are out of the eight – and a few which are in it – Richmond is craving consistency.

Consistency from week to week, consistency from quarter to quarter.

Tigers assistant coach Brian Royal was left lamenting some avoidable losses at the second break of the season.

"If we could be consistent in the manner in which we play, we would have won more games," he said.

"We've been in all games except the Sydney game for either two or three quarters, and we just haven't been able to play four quarters of footy, and that's the thing that we really need to try and focus on in the last part of the season.

"Is it mental or is it physical? Within the club we've got a bit of an idea of what it is, but we've got to deal with that, and become better at dealing with that."

While the team's inability to put a full game together is frustrating fans and club alike, Royal said the way the Tigers played when they were “on” was a positive sign for the future, as is the state of the playing list.

"What gives you some heart is the manner that we play at times. There's no doubt about that, but as I said, we cannot do it for four quarters.

"But you've got to look at the upside as well – certain aspects of the game are fantastic, but we just can't maintain it.

"Trent (Cotchin) has been fantastic – for a young kid who's just turned 18 years of age to come in and do what he's doing at the moment, shows the value that he is going to be for the Richmond football club in the future, particularly after not doing a pre-season.

"You've got Brett Deledio, Richard Tambling, Jack Riewoldt, Cleve Hughes – in a lot of the young kids you're really starting to see the future of the Richmond football club."

Yes I agree. I'm now cringing everytime I read something that Terry or someone has said cause it tends to come back and bite us.
