What did Benny have to say to himself?

Gale had a pretty big fan club amongst the Tiger faithful, but I never really warmed to him. I liked his marking, but thought he was an average ruckman.

Benny did well in the back half. He was forever taking marks "in the last line of defence" and he read the play well.

Lets be honest....he was the classic kick-behind play ruckmen.....and he would mop up.

Never forget the victory at Kardinia Park in 90 when Benny (with short hair) ran riot.....

Thanks to our wonderful high-$$$ contract negotiators at the time Benny was forced into retirement a year or two early IMO. Add to that the recruitment of Hudson and Houlihan and you can see where and when we totally lost the plot.

I have to agree.....to an extent. Your missing one vital cog. People underestimated the retirement of Benny and Brodders....you have a big man who takes contested marks *Did Hall hear that?* and plugged gaps.....and you have a true-hard man on the bottom of packs with skills so sublime....that it was a travesty that he had to play in such a bullsh$t team in a bullsh$t era.

It's a shame that the one game we all love to remember ('95 semi V Essendon) is the one game Benny would like to forget ;)

Only got to see a few minutes of the repeat last night.  Part 2 next week.

Benny mentioned about Tony Free and the impact his loss made to the team.

Have to agree with that.  I thought he was a good leader, both on and off the field, who never took a backward step on the footy field.

It was bad luck that he was cut down with injury in his prime.

I noticed when he talked about his old captains, Mr J Hogg didn't even get a mention (either from Walls or Benny). Total erasure for Hoggy!

Walls didn't get to Richmond until 1996.  Hogg left in 1993 I think.

Benny started his career in 1990/91, so probably wouldn't have played much footy with him.

You're correct TS. Hogg was traded at the end of 1993 (Richo's first year) for Brodders, Michael Gale and Dundas.
