From The Age:

Quote
His senior players recently dismissed suggestions by former Lions coach and Age columnist Robert Walls that Matthews had become too old to move with the trends of the game,

Typical Wallsy. Anyone could see that getting the list as competitive as it has been over the last 4 seasons on the back of 4 straight GFs was a remarkable act of list regeneration. The new coach will have plenty to work with. Lambert, perhaps?

He's the best coach of his generation for mine. If I was March I'd be offering Leigh the chance to take a year out and then have the job in 2010. Might put Wallace's nose out of joint but thats what I'd be doing.

What's been lost in this all is that Jonathon Brown is staying in Brisbane and he did that before Leigh made his decision

Leaves Malthouse now as the only one left from the older generation of coaches. In the space of 14 months Pagan, Sheedy and Matthews all gone.

Voss apparently has a get out clause in his new contract with West Coast. He was a great player but risky if the Lions go with an untried coach with no assistant coaching experience. The only coaching experience Voss has is at the AIS. Remember what happened to Watson at St Kilda.
