Christmas Trees - real or fake
« on: November 28, 2008, 08:24:05 AM »
Just having a bit of a debate, shall we say, with one of my brothers.  We were always brought up with a fake Christmas tree.  I still use one.  He, since being married, has always had a real tree.  I personally can't see the point of getting a new tree every year - costs money and trees.  What do my fellow OER-ites have for Christmas?

My daughter makes the best Christmas trees.
She gets branches and paints them silver and it just looks absolutely beautiful with the ornaments she picks.
Lot better than the traditional pine trees  :thumbsup

LOL FF

We've always had a fake tree and each year we buy something new to hang on it. You can hardly see the tree now  :D.

Our tree is a fake one

We use a vairety of decorations, some new ones each year as well as some really old ones that were Ma Powell's... some are getting pretty fragile these days.

We also deck the front of the house out with a light display.

The wifes family use to have real tree's each year but my family did to for a while but then changed to fake tree's. Now we are together we have always had a fake tree spend out once for a good one and it will last close enoth for ever.
So I'm all for fake trees.
We use to make it look like it had snow on it. Then I woke uo to it that I have never sen a white Christmas so I stopped right away.
Now we have the traditonal tree with what most others have on them.
And we don't do the Turkey and Ham thing either we have a straight out BBQ each year.
This is more to our climate. As why should we try to copy them over there when we will never see a White Christmas here.

Real

We buy it from one of the charities so it is part of the spirit of giving as well. (this year the $45 went towards the RSPCA)

Pity I'm alergic to the bloody things.

Here's a story about the tradition of the Xmas tree

When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.
Then Mrs Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.
When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.
Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.
Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum.. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drank all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.
Just then the doorbell rang, and irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.
The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?'

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

Well we have an angel on the top of our tree and a fake tree at that.
But I remember my dad doing his nut over having an angel on our tree when we were kids.
He ripped it off of the tree and put up a star.
So I think this is why I have a Angel on our tree now, just to spite him, not that he's here anymore.
Cause I know he hated it so much.
What a you know what he was.
