Poster on Tiger-Talk did a review of the function at the club last night:
Bought my girlfriend a membership for Christmas, so last night I went along with her to the "new member introduction" night down at Punt Road.
Had a quick tour of the MCG and Punt Road, ended up in the social club (which is now the 5th time I've been in it for the "last time").
David King, Tuck, Sugar, Jake King, Collins, Sarge and Rance were in attendance.
David King showed a couple things in the gym which they thought were innovative - focusing on core strength. Apparently Luke McGuane is a bit of a champion at that stuff.
In the interviews (which David King led - and proved very good at) - Rance - needs to work on his marking and positioning in our zone defence. Will get a run against Collingwood. Finding it challenging to get a game with competition down back.
- Sugar - slowly working into it. From the sounds of it won't get a game next week. Enjoying not being captain and focusing on his own thing.
- Jake King - second half of last season was ruined with injuries. Had an ankle reco and only got back on the training track in December. A couple months behind his team mates. Reckons we should keep an eye on Nahas and Edwards - as well as Sylvester as big improver's. There goes his credibility.
- Collins - a pretty funny guy. Enjoyed the view from the pine at Subiaco. Thinks he looks good in orange (I assume that's the colour "substitutes" had to wear.). When he came on found it faster then he expected. Thing he learnt is that you have to go full tilt the whole time and put your head over the ball at all times. He's grown from being a jockey to having a Kermit build. Mentioned how much he's learnt from Axel.
- Sarge - has had a knee problem for the last 3-4 weeks. It's healed up well though he says and he thinks he didn't lose much fitness. Again mentioned competition for backline spots. Collins had a go on him for always standing on people heads (I assume that his love for speccies!)
- Tuck - Didn't say much. His wife called him about 30 seconds into the interview. Lots of jokes about him playing every game for 4 seasons (so he must be on match payments), having his Dads durability, being newly married he needs to keep the income rolling in for his wife (at which point his phone went - his wife on the end) - to much laughter King announced she was checking to see if he was getting paid this week.
Fun evening at the club. Apparently the crowd was much bigger then previous years at this event - probably a sign of increased membership and increased interest in the club.
All credit to the club - it's a worthwhile thing to make new members feel valued.
