Terry on the Good Oil - SEN
« on: March 05, 2009, 12:48:14 PM »
Coaches support the Dreamteam concept, think it's fantastic.

Richmond coaches have an internal competition.

Terry has the advantage because he picks the real team.  :lol

Polak
Part of the process of finding out where he's at. People can get strange about it because just 2 months ago we wanted him on the rookie list.

Gives Polak a feel of how he's going.

Joint call between Terry, Polak and medical staff. Step up from playing against 'friendly fire'. Play him in second half when the heat is out of the game.

No chance for round 1. Hoping he'll resume at Coburg reserves this year.

He's come a long way further than anyone has expected.

Terry thought we were a good chance of getting Polak on the rookie list, had spoken to AFL people and went ahead with it because of the stuff from these people.

Terry
It's boom or bust this year. Supporters have been good, patient with the rebuild. If there is no success then he expects he'd be replaced.

Won't change the way he makes decisions (with pressure of losing job).

Terry doing his fitness program so he's fit and well and ready for the season.

Tuesdays with Terry was needed 4 years ago to get brand name out there again. If you look at the papers now, we don't need to do it.

If things go bad at the start of the season, how long would he last ie. 2-6 after 8 rounds?

It's hard to say.

He's been comfortable with the 5 year contract, the board will review him after his contract runs out.

If we're 8-3 he's not going to be knocking on the door for an extension.

Most people overrate their own list, supporters, board members etc.

Then when the club doesn't perform as the supporters, board expect, it's easier to replace the coach.

Part 2

Amazing people were questioning why Cousins didn't do the after match interview.

He hit his head in the third quarter. Played 5 minutes of the last quarter.

Didn't know who he was playing for, who won, it took 35 minutes to find his car.

Took him a while to overcome last weeks game.

Should we get him in the dreamteam?

If he plays, he will get plenty of the ball.

Terry would take a punt on him.  :lol

Other Tigers in the dreamteam (Terry's picks):

Jack Riewoldt - Flying on track
Polo and Raines
Angus Graham will probably play each and every week as second ruck
Shane Edwards across half back

Buddy or Riewoldt
Worried about Nick's body going into this season. Buddy will be better value, younger and fitter.

Judd or Ablett
Would like both at Richmond

Both resilient, Terry would go Judd, only just.

Terry thinks we'll see midfielders resting forward if they can kick a goal or two, not pure midfielders though.

Hudghton or C. Brown
Brown because he's a safer pick. Doesn't get injured as much.

I wouldn't mind him either just wish he could consistently bag a couple of goals each game to help his ratings

Angus Graham will probably play each and every week as second ruck

Interesting and looking at the first two games it would suggest that as well.  Just wondering where it leaves Patto with Jack performing well as a CHF.

Cheers wayne  :cheers

Just on Polo, Plough was patting him on back as they walked off together down the race yesterday after training. There's probably be a thought in the past from us supporters that Deano might have been on the outer when it came to team selection but he seems to be back in Terry's good books. Deano told Terry his shoulder is feeling good so hopefully he can push to cement a spot in our 22 as his toughness for the footy is what we need more of.

Terry thought we were a good chance of getting Polak on the rookie list, had spoken to AFL people and went ahead with it because of the stuff from these people.
Demetriou backed it but the AFL commission got cold feet when Eddie started sooking publicly in the media and acting like he was a qualified neurosurgeon  ::).

Interesting comment to make and true of Richmond in the past. I guess we'll find out this year whether we've overrated ourselves or not. Hopefully not and we play finals.

I think alot of us have been guilty of over rating our players in the past.We take "good ordinary players" and treat them as superstars of the competition. There is another club like this and its name is Fremantle.
Did you all know that over here in Perth Sean McManus is reading the sport on channel 9 news.

interesting interview.

What it hghlights for me is that TW is preparing for life in the media. This will come by Round 22 IMO.

He can run all he likes but lose to the blues and he better put on his sneakers and run to Centrelink because that will become his best friend in 2009.

One McManus on TV is already too much.

He'd probably be funnier than his cousin Rove though.

If you listen to the interview TW was saying things like "he loves working with the media" Loves being part of talk back etc etc.

IMO and its only my opinion i think when he leaves Footy not if, he really wants a job in the media.

Round 1 is whats it all about boys.

I expect a loss
You always expect a loss.  And what a breath of fresh air is honesty in an interview.  Give me that to the negativity of blinkered supporters any day.

expect a loss every game do i?

Well do you fu.ckin blame me? What have we dont in 25 years to alter my mind.

Big game that mean a lot to the RFC normally results in a loss

I could give you a thousand examples of games we needed to win and lost,

FWIW i won big round 1 last year with the tigers but this year will be a different result if we dont pull our finger out

I really hope the Tigers have a great year :pray, regardless of whether i like TW or not! I never hope to see a loss because my personality clashes with the coach, i just love my club too much for that to happen :bow. I really hope for Terry's sake that the tigers perform this year for him. He has copped crap everywhere he goes and it would be a great story of human triumph to prove the doubters wrong (I also wish the same for blokes like Joel , Richo and Cuz). As for the media part, most players and coaches who have made footy their career look to the media as a prospect when retirement is imminent! Its is a natural progression and should be appluaded :clapping

its a natural progression because they have nothing else to fall back on. Unlike the richo's and browny's of this world who are well and truly prepared for life after footy.

Regardless i would rather RFC make the finals, but ill know whose fault it is if we dont and its the coach including assistants and recruiting staff.

Since TW took over i see the same foot skill errors, the same skinny players, the same players who cant lay tackles etc etc etc and we are not in the 8 so you tell me what has changed.

A few players have developed nicely and a few handy recruits (Morton) but its same old Richmond in my eyes until i start seeing our club lead tackle counts and actually start beating top 8 sides in those important crunch games.

That is a fair comment and is where the RFC needs to be at.

I really don't think Terry cares whether he stays at the club or leaves it. In fact I think he will be happy to leave and may himself just walk away at the end of the season regardless of out comes. I think he may want to go.
