Mark Saturday the 6th of June 2009 down on your calendars as a watershed moment in the history of this mighty club. It is the moment the club makes its decision whether we will look to rebuild or we will continue making the same mistakes we have done for almost 3 decades.

This week will reveal which direction we will go in the future  -

Saturday with the choice of the Caretaker,
Thursday with our team selection
The weekend whether we win or lose the game.

Saturday
If we choose Campbell we will be trying to win as many games as we can to build up a winning culture not only for the rest of the year but beyond. Campbell will be coaching to claim the long term contract. If we choose Rawlings or McCrae(sp?) the water will be muddier but if we choose Royal then we will be looking towards the draft.

Thursday
If we play a relatively unchanged side and bring players like Brown and Johnson back then we are looking to win at all costs.
If we hedge our bets and bring in Brown but also someone like Thomson then the path is unclear.
If we drop 3/4 older players and/or good structural players with 'niggles' and include draftees such as Vickery, Post, Thomson and Hislop we are looking to the draft.

The Weekend
If we win we have effectively signalled our desire to play out the rest of the season and win as many games as possible regardless of the draft. We have also gifted WC a priority pick in the process reagrdless of how many we win or loss beyond that point.
If we lose we have effect lost an 8 point game, keeping our hopes alive regarding priority picks but dashing there's.

As I said this week will signify what the next step is for the club and what the direction the administration is guiding us to for the remainder of the year and the future in general.

The last time we tanked we got Cotchin Rance and ummm McMahon. McMahon was a terrible trade. In effect we gave up Callan Ward or Scott Selwood.

Anyone in here really believe that we can pass up the chance for another Cotchin Rance and Ward draft?

I think not. Its time to tank and get 3 good kids into the club.

I was saying it in another thread but if we do tank, how do we go about it against the West Coast, a team that has practically come out and said it is tanking.

Do we play our absolute worse players (ie King in the ruck, Simmonds on the wing, Hughes and Schulz as two key FF's), can we manufacture injuries so that by half time we have only 10-12 players run out on the paddock?

If we do it more subtley but if it is still obvious that there are two tanking teams playing each other I wonder what ramifications will arise from the AFL, media and supporters in general?

every year clubs tank! the worst tank ive ever seen was 1 club lose a game of football afew years ago now, when they were leading by about 3 goals with 3 minutes to go. The AFL didnt do anything. Zip.

I dont really have an opinion one way or the other now that our season is up that certain creek.  I would sure love seeing some high draft picks come into the doors of tigerland.

I am still curious though on how we would prepare to tank against the West Coast.  Obviuosly we would pick a young side with maybe a few of our poorer players (JON) and leave out our older players playing for their careers.

However at the end of the day it will still be one tanking side against anothers and we will be relying on our players lack of abilities to lose assuming we dont tell them to go out and lose directly.

So how do we guarentee we lose to the West Coast?

I think the key to ensuring West Coast gets a win is to load up our midfield with relatively young, inexperienced up and comers such as Collins, Hislop, Thomson and others including King and Cogs. Put Tucky and Lids up forward to see if they can hold down the position and Jackson in defence etc. Give Vickery and Putt a go in the ruck.

When it all comes down to it we can't kick goals unless our midfield is getting the ball and deliverying it into the F50.

No strong, mature midfield=loss.

I feel dirty.... :-[

Then the President and his board need to Go because the order needs to be given from up high and the caretaker needs to understand what he is there to do, if they are not capable of doing what is pragmatic and they can all go.

How do we get Cuz to tank against the West Coast? I wouldn't be surprised if he has a blinder against them and I dont think he would be the type to listen to tanking talk.

Realistically he could win the game off his own bat.

if we choose Royal then we will be looking towards the draft.
He didn't apply for the job, all the others did

Of course he didn't. Kind of glad he didn't. Not enough ambition and too close to Plough and his philosophy. Although we should have given him the gig as that will have ensured no more than two more wins by seasons end.

Rotate the midfield and get Cuz to play in the forward pocket for the best part and only sparingly let him go in the midfield to play on his mate Kerr. Thus you try and limit his influence in order to try and influence the result.

Just before our opening NAB cup game against Freo there was a cocktail party at Burswood Casino for us WA suppoerters.

During the night there was an Auction for a trip for two to Melbourne for the round 12 West Coast game.
