Contract Negotiation Time & Fallout?
« on: June 30, 2009, 04:24:35 PM »
I was checking through the players who are up for contract negotiations this year (leaving out the over-30's for the time being)

Seems to me that there are two performance groups at present amongst the ones who are due for deals

Trying Pretty Hard to Impress Group:
Jackson
Morton
Rance (Just back from a serious injury)

Not Being So Successful at Impressing Group
Cotchin (No pre-season)
Deledio (Carrying a hand injury?)
Pattison (Not much of a pre-season)
Raines (Injury after injury)

I'm wondering if contract negotiations might be weighing on a few minds?  On top of the coaching saga and adverse publicity, could it have a performance impact?

Some players have good years when they are out of contract as they know they might not get another. We've just had so many who haven't produced anywhere near what they did in the second of the half of 2008. Jacko, Blingers, Polo and Collo have improved significantly but that's about it.

I was thinking that maybe the club mightn't value their contributions quite as highly as some players/managers might and that might have an impact on a young guy's performances.

I know in business that it sometimes works that way at salary review time

This is our out of contract list: Bowden, Brown, Cotchin, Coughlan, Cousins, Deledio, Hughes, Jackson, McGuane, Morton, Oakley-Nicholls, Pattison, Pettifer, Polak, Putt, Raines, Rance, Richardson, Simmonds.

So is the other one Cotch or Jacko?
