It's not so much a matter of just inflating membership numbers, but more the extra dollars it will bring in by people signing up that otherwise wouldn't.

Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

Or people who will drop off an 11 game membership & buy a 3 gamer instead. Two sides to this debate. ;)

then only make it available to:

1) concession card holders
2) people who brought a tigers insiders membership the year before.

If other clubs inflate their memberships we should too.

Hawks have a 5 game mebership for about 10K Tassie members that will surely drop off if the Hawks pull the plug from The Apple Isle or the AFL grant Tassie their own Licence.
Skunks have something similar also in terms of a 3 game membership.

We should think of doing something similar. Some membership dollars is better than no membership revenue.

Some will, no doubt, but it will probably bring in more new members than would do this. The biggest group that would drop their current membership in favour of this would probably be the country/interstate members, so perhaps any such membership catagory would have to be comparable with the existing country/interstate memberships

Geelong probably need to offer a 3 game membership because Kardinia Park capacity is less than the number of members they have. Never going to be a problem for Richmond, even if the 75,000 target is achieved.

At the end of the day membership is about generating revenue for clubs. So it shouldn't matter if a membership includes match-day games or not if the purchase price for it is the same. There's an argument the tally should be measured in terms of dollars not numbers as the latter can be easily manipulated using these reduced memberships to inflate tallies. The only thing against a pure dollar tally is a club like Essendon needs its fans to buy reserved seats given the Docklands limited capacity so would have a higher $ per member ratio.

Btw this time last year we had 31,052 + 7,738 = 38,790 members so we are 8000 behind now. Just shows again how much hype was around us last year  :-\. We're still just ahead of the 2008 figure though.

Richmond membership tally since 2003 (at around the March 9):
2003 - 25,101
2004 – 27,133
2005 – 28,029
2006 – 29,406
2007 – 30,044
2008 – 30,820
2009 - 38,790
2010 - 30,951

It'll be closer to 7,000 by the time we get to 11th march. I'm sure there's a few to count over the long weekend and over the next 2 days plus some that haven't been counted from family day  8)
