I made my little daughter watch that speech. Loved it.

Great clubman who put himself second today.

Champion of our club, who goes out on a high.

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

Will be remembered as one of the most underated figures.

What a speech. I'm not crying your crying.

Very moving, selfless and heartfelt speech. Well done and thanks Dave :clapping. It wasn't easy in the early days where injuries meant he only played 24 games in 5 years between his 2nd and 6th seasons. You got the best out of yourself Dave and earnt all your eventual success as a 3-time premiership player. As others have said you were a key component of our premiership backline. Congrats on a fantastic footy career and all the best for your post-footy future.

An extremely selfless decision. Congratulations to him on a wonderful career. He fought through adversity with the injuries that plagued him early on and became a critical cog in the defence. His marking was a joy to watch and his ability to not get beaten one on one was also a highlight. Wish him all the best in retirement. A great servant of the club.

Congrats on wonderful career. Brilliant speech

I much prefer players going out on their terms rather than being pushed.

Dave's been able to do that and at the same time do what's best for the Club he clearly loves.

That he understands how much the last 4 years have meant to us, the members, supporters and fans is a testament of the bloke he is.

Well done Dave and thank you

What more can be said as he proved to be a solid contributor during our premiership era.

Loved the speech and all the tributes he made to those who were instrumental in not only his development but the success of the team
(Interestingly another player who failed to mention Chocco Williams  :rollin)

I especially liked how he spoke of Rance too.

Wish him all the best. Well done.  :clapping :clapping :clapping

Very unrated as a player in a great backline, before he came along the monster forwards would have a field day against us, a smart bloke ( engineer) and a champion bloke. Hope he does something around the club.

A 3 time premiership player makes him an immortal of the club.
1/6th of the best backline I’ve seen at Tigerland in the last 50 odd years.
With Rance also gone and Houli spent, it’s a backline that now needs work.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

He has the tools but I hope Balta looks at Astbury’s career and realises talent and athleticism only takes you so far. He got absolutely pantsed but a Josh Kennedy in his twilight years and should go over the tapes to see the amount of work and discipline Astbury put in to be an extremely underrated lockdown defender
