July 17, 2012 11:46AMRICHMOND can still make the finals but faces a huge test of character against North Melbourne on Sunday, according to David King.
And King, a Kangaroos premiership player and former Tigers assistant coach, is confident the Tigers are on the right path even if they fall short of September action this year.
In his weekly SuperFooty live blog In the Zone, King said Richmond could afford to lose only one or two more matches if it wanted to play finals, with its toughest assignments coming against North Melbourne and Essendon.
The Tigers' shock loss to Gold Coast has the club sitting in 11th spot, one game behind the Kangaroos, Fremantle and St Kilda which is currently in eighth spot on the ladder.
King said the match review of the Suns game would have been "a horror movie", but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
"As long as the review is honest -- not all your development and learning comes from winning games," he said.
"I strongly believe the Tigers have made significant inroads this year, the style of play has become more refined and has drastically improved from 2011 to the point where finals are/were a discussion.
"All recruiting selections have been a boon, their elite players are playing good football so the road to premierships is clear, i reckon they're on the right track
"In reality this doesn't hurt the Tigers' path, it may cost them finals this year but in the long run it's not an issue."
He said the fitness of key North Melbourne players Drew Petrie and Leigh Adams would have a major influence on the outcome of Sunday's game.
