Tigers launch new era
07 November 2004
Sunday Herald Sun
By SCOT PALMER and JACKIE EPSTEIN

TERRY Wallace yesterday launched the Richmond "rebirth" with the Ty Zantuck situation still clouded and the Tigers keeping a tight lid on the identity of its No. 1 draft choice.

There was also speculation that Greg Miller, the principal architect in Richmond's massive restructuring, could run for a board position.

Colleagues said Miller had always had the urge to participate at board level.

Miller was non-committal when asked whether he would nominate for the Richmond election next month.

Meanwhile, the Kangaroos decided this week not to continue with efforts to secure Zantuck in next month's pre-season draft.

Initially the Roos showed interest in the backman, who has fallen out with some key players at Richmond. But it appears the Kangaroos are not so keen on him now.

No other club has yet expressed an interest in Zantuck, who is still contracted to the Tigers, putting both the club and the player in an awkward position and a compromise a long way off.

Wallace called the Tigers together for their first official training session yesterday.

Former Hawk Mark Graham, training with the Tigers, was given a crude introduction to his new environment with a testing boxing session that left him ill, while Mark Chaffey was left with a bloody shirt after sparring against Joel Bowden.

What's happening at your club

RICHMOND

THE club is appealing for host families to take in some of its new draftees.
Player development manager Dale Weightman is asking suitable candidates to contact him at the club, as many of the club's draftees this year will be from interstate or country regions.

All players are back at the club, working hard on repetitive skills drills under the tutelage of assistant coach Brian Royal.

lol Wallace reintroducing 1970s full-on training sessions. I don't think Joel was impressed with Chaffey's disposal this year  ;)

As for Ty  ???.

That's funnyl after all of Joel's poor disposal over the years  :lol Though, I supose when you've won a JD Medal you're entitled to give the odd upper cut during boxing.  ;D

As for Ty  ???.

Perhaps Ty is reaping what he has sewn. If the reports of him mouthing off about his teammates to other clubs is true - it may have back fired on him. Scared potential suitors away.

Chaffey has taken over from Joel who took from Daffy as the Tigers most maligned player. The upper cut must be part of some handover ceremony  ;).

Agree WP. Thing is if we can't find him a suitable suitor then what do we do with him? Play him permanently at Coburg  ???. If that's the case then as a out-of-contract player he really has shot himself in the foot because we can simply delist him at the end of next year and by then no other AFL club would show interest in drafting him.

The ball is totally in Ty's court. His manager has to find him a team and if his manager cannot do that then we are stuck with him  :-\. If that happens it is up to Ty to make it work. If that means Coburg then it's Coburg - but geez he'd be the highest paid bloke running around in the VFL for 20 weeks  :help Unless he stays, plays round 1 and then gets rubbed out for 15 weeks for scaring the Cats new recruit who's name I cannot remember ;D - you know one of Ty's brain explosions :thumbsup

I am curious about Essendon - what are they playing at? If the story's correct and no other team bar the Kangas have shown no interest then what's Sheeds up too this time :help
