Rucks- Bigmen
« on: December 12, 2009, 08:26:15 AM »
It'll be interesting to see how our rucks go in 2010.

Who do you think will be our ruck combo going into round 1 next year and will it have changed by round 22?

Think with Simmo being contracted again he'd have to be first choice. (Unfortunatly)

And then you'd raffle off the best pre season out of Browne and Gus.

Personally I would have rathered Gus and Browne to be given 22 games each this year and really start to learn to work together, They are still big bodies and would be competitive against most sides 2nd ruckman.

I think we will see all three regularly playing together this year. From what I gathered from watching training this week it was obvious we are lacking height and size in the forwardline and the regular targets of the midfielders seemed to be the big fellows as they were the only players who appeared to find space and won the marking duels in congested situations.

Gus is a monster at the moment so at the very least he will rest in the forwardline with Simmonds remaining our 1st ruck. Browne still lacks defensively and mobility wise though has pace on the lead. Gus actually appeared more mobile, agile and skillful that Simmonds! Vickery still remains one or two developmental years away from rucking regularly against monsters Gus' size but IMO will probably find a spot in the forwardline.

Simmonds-Graham - 1st choice!

but i think that Vickery will play as a tall forward, so possibly have 3 ruckmen in a match.

Vickery, Simmo, Gus, Browne to play as the forward changing with Vickery.

because one of our rucks is past it and cant get to contests or at least match athletic abilities with the kreuzer types, and our 2nd ruckman is a kid whose about 3 years away from being any good. our other  rucks werent selected. thats my opinion anyway.

if this is the case then vickery must play in the forward line so we have someone who makes a contest when we have a ball up in the forward line.

and GRaham or Browne in the middle and tell them to fcking run to contests.

i was not expecting to lose the clearences to that extent. Murphy killed us - but it does not help when we have no ruckman trying to at least knock the ball to advantage.

I am scared to think what would of happened if Judd played

Wasnt Simmos fault.
You will find that Vickery was to be the ruckman but for some unknown reason he stood back with there other big tall. ::)

Our ruck options are very limited at the point (understatement) that's why. We arguably have the worst ruck division in the league. A legacy of past poor recruitment and drafting.

It wouldn't surprise me if we target an experienced ruckman when free agency comes in (2012?). Would fit in with the timing of our list maturing and save time and certainty rather than waiting another 5+ years hoping another 18 year old will become a top ruckman. Every current top side has traded for an experienced big ruckman.

that would be fine if indeed he did make a contest, unless I blinked and missed it he rarely got his hands above his head...poor sign, Im really losing faith in this kid...dunno how many times pre draft I warned of selecting ruckman with first pick ::)

I too are just not seeing this Kid being that good. I wil give him time but from what I have seen so far I dont see him being the Ruckman of our next premiership. Hope I am wrong.

our ruck man did alright i thought ... just the carlton players kept tacking the ball after we would try and pass it in the Mid and ruck,,, i reckon we need better forwards (we should have looked at big bad bazza) we had too many points that should have been goals.

It's only the 1st round of the kids 2nd year. Ruckmen aren't supposed to show anything until they're about 22-23 and he already showed glimpses of his ability last year. Talk about premature.

Need to add another tall to the side (at least), not just replace one that played the other night. The report on Browne from the coburg game gives a glimmer of hope i suppose.

Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

So are my ways higher than your ways,
