"... I thought Grimesy (Dylan Grimes) had pinged his hammy but he said it was just his glute, a little knock, so he’ll be right.”

Co-captain Grimes was subbed out early in the second half with a hamstring injury.

“I don’t want to speculate, but it’s not great,” Hardwick said. “It’s a little bit challenging and emotional for all of us because he’s such an important player to the fabric of our football club. We hope it’s not too severe ... we’ve got our fingers crossed at this stage.

In the full presser video, Dimma said Grimesy told him it was a bad one  :(.

Burge and whoever decided the strategy this year should hang their head in shame.

I have a suspicion this is why he is leaving. Dimma I’m sure would have unloaded on him at various stages this year.

Disgraceful what has happened this year. Last chance at a flag and all we copped was soft tissue injuries.

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

Burge should have been moved on end last year.

I'm a bit worried about Dyl, not just his hammy but overall.  All through the first half our defence looked static, reactive & pedestrian.  Dyl was doing a reasonable individual job on Cameron (as he usually does) but our whole back 6 looked bad & the Brion forwards were having a great old time.
Then pwang goes the hammy ... so we moved Rioli onto  Cameron & we suddenly looked brighter & sharper.  Nank was slaving away in the ruck so we used Miller to give him a rest, somehow with our co-captains off the field we got a taste for it.  Rioli was all over Cameron like a cheap suit, Miller was giving us something in the ruck & around the ground too.  We clicked & off we went!  Rioli even ran off Cameron & kicked a spectacular 55m goal in the last.
We went from sludgy to dangerous & blew them away.  The Brions had their injury troubles too, but what was the thing that transformed us after our co-captains left the field?  Was it simply the fact that our co-captains were off the ground?  I kind of hope not ... but I'll enjoy a great come back win, it was awesome to see it go the other way for once.       :cheers
Once a Tiger, always a Tiger!  Loud, proud & dangerous!

Grimes interviewed on Ch 9 arvo news before going into get his scan:

"[It was] sore this morning. Done hammies before and this doesn't feel great. Still hopeful but that may be due to still riding high off the back of the win last night."

Tom Browne on 7 news said Richmond has told him Grimes' injury is medium term but they still hopeful he will play a part this season.

Medium term usually means 4-6 weeks out.

If we make finals, with the pre-finals bye it would be 5 weeks from now. That’s enough time for him and dusty to recover provided we make it - still have my doubts.

Latest update from Peter Burge:

Dylan Grimes, hamstring

"Dylan suffered a hamstring strain in the third quarter of the game on the weekend, which is really disappointing and frustrating for him and us. We're in a situation at the moment when we're getting some further investigation. He had some scans yesterday and it's a high hamstring strain up around the upper tendon and the upper hamstring, an area where he's had an issue in the past, 10 years ago he had some surgery on that same area... At this stage it's probably looking doubtful that he's going to play in the last three home and away games of the season. So, we're going to need to have a look at what lies beyond that. We'll gather some more information over the next couple of days and we'll give everyone an update."

Grimes unlikely to play again this year unless Tigers go deep into finals (afl)

Grimesy had surgery on his hammy today.

Tigers' finals tilt takes a hit as co-captain undergoes surgery

Dylan Grimes has been ruled out of a comeback before finals.

By AAP
4 August 2022

Damien Hardwick concedes Richmond co-captain Dylan Grimes is unlikely to play again this season unless the Tigers make a deep run into the finals.

Grimes will miss the remaining three home-and-away rounds, starting with Saturday night's crunch game against Port Adelaide because of his latest hamstring setback.

The triple-premiership defender had surgery on Thursday to repair tendon damage in the hope he can return during September.

"He won't play in the regular season, that part's done and dusted," Hardwick told reporters on Thursday.

"(It depends on) how far we go in the finals and it gives him a chance if we make it.

"This (surgery) gives him his best chance to get back this year, we feel."

Would you bring him back for a prelim or GF if he hadn't played? Don't think so. He's done for the year.
