FORMER Essendon goalkicker Dean Rioli has taken Richmond recruit Relton Roberts under his wing.
A big supporter of Territory footballers making their way in the AFL, Rioli has provided Ngukurr-born Roberts with all the comforts of home in his first season in the ``Big Show''.
``I probably wouldn't waste my time if I didn't think Relton had what it takes to make it at AFL level,'' he said.
``I've seen him play for Wanderers up there (in Darwin) and I think he's going to be an exciting talent for the AFL.
``My wife (Samantha) and I have put our hands up to say we'll look after him this season.''
Rioli said the former NTFL Eagle was being shunted from house to house in his first season since being plucked from the Eagle's nest at pick No. 38 in the 2009 AFL Rookie Draft.
``He's been staying with (senior coach) Damien Hardwick, then Richard Tambling and the next day another assistant coach.
``For his and Richmond's sake he needs to be settled to perform at his best.
`
`My wife and I had a serious chat and decided we want to do what we can from our end to give him that stable lifestyle away from the club.
``That will show Richmond it wasn't a waste of time taking him.''
Rioli met with Roberts and Tiger officials last week and was impressed with the former Eagle's physical progress.
``He's put on some muscle and some weight and looks like he'll be right to go in two or three weeks,'' he said.
``They're pretty happy with him already, he's shown them enough.''
