Best mark
« on: November 09, 2004, 02:44:43 AM »
Who is/was the best mark in a tiger jumper?

Obviously Royce Hart although I was too young to see him play.

Richo would be up there based on the standard of delivery or lack of he's had to put up with. If he played every game he would lead the AFL in contested marks every year. The only if on Richo is he doesn't take as many marks with arms outstretched in front as he should.

Benny Gale always did well taking that crucial mark in floating across the backline.

Chuck in Chubba in his prime (and Duncan in his early days) for running back into packs with the flight of the ball.

David Bourke took some pretty good marks for a spaz

What about Roachy - Like every other Richmond supporter I was sitting behind the goals that day - What a beauty  :thumbsup

If you talking solely about contested marks - it would be Richo by a mile. Coupled with that he can take the odd "spekkie" as well. :thumbsup

I used to love watching Disco Roach.

The only if on Richo is he doesn't take as many marks with arms outstretched in front as he should.

I reckon Jeff Hogg was one of the best marks on a lead, arms outstretched.

And Jimmy Jess was a good mark as well especially in packs.

For  pure courage Francis Bourke for mine :thumbsup

Michael Mitchell wasn't averse to taking the odd hanger.

Overall would have to go for Richo from what I've seen.

Richo is a very good contested marker, but as previously stated he marks TOO much on his chest and hardly ever takes a "ONE" grab mark.

Other handy marks include: Benny Gale and Paul Bulluss in the backline

Wayne Campbell is a very good mark for his size.

Michael Mitchell was just a freak who was cut down in his prime.

And who could forget Steven Jackson, Todd Breman, Ty Esler, Mark "Hulk" McQueen and Terry Keays.

Terry Keays for mine.  He took a great mark in the preseason comp.

Thought he was going to be a great pick from Collingwood.

Another Clinton King for mine

Pound for pound i'd have to say Jimi Jess because of the ease he seemed to do it with,
Big hands,no fear and with an ounce  of arrogance.]

As for the kicks..................... :bow

Seen him kick one from just out of the centre circle with his boot OFF.

Anyone see it?

Was about 76/77 i think.

I don't remember Cloke pre collingwood, but post collingwood he really was a great mark.  One on one you could put your house down that he would mark the thing.  Was very good at positioning and reading the flight.
Does anyone have half an idea on anything?

He might not be yet be a consistent mark but i have the feeling Sargent Schultz is going to take some absolute pearlers in the future he looks like he has sticky fingers and it wont be too long until the day he comes out and takes 18 marks. My sources say he is rated VERY highly and will be one of the great CHF of the future according to those down at tigerland!! Lets hope that is true ey!
