RICHMOND

HF: Ben Cousins, Jack Riewoldt, Richard Tambling

F: Mitch Morton, Graham Polak, Robin Nahas

Don't expect this structure to produce a million goals this season, but do expect it to keep improving as it has done for the last couple of years. It's lost the firepower of Matthew Richardson to retirement, but mature-age rookie Polak should be one of two rookies that Richmond, with no veterans, can elevate ahead of round one. Polak has turned the corner over summer and has his marking mojo back. Tambling and Nahas both had terrific seasons in 2009 and will be hoping to revisit that form, while Cousins is the class every forward line needs. Morton and Riewoldt seem permanent fixtures.

I can't see Bling playing in the forward line given his midfield display last weekend. I think he will be placed on the wing as long as HArdwick is willing to trial a Farmer/Connors/Edwards/Webberly/Dea off the HBF to free him up.

Cousins also looks fitter this year so he may play more time in the middle too.

This means players like Astbury, Roberts, Griffiths and Taylor could be afforded game time in the F50. Perhaps not in the first hit out but certainly not far into the season.

hard to know. i'd say he probably is because, well, we need some experience out there!

Polly's experience is that combined with Fremantle & Richmond. Hardly the greatest of resumes. :help

What we need some talent out there.
Whilst I admire his courage to return from such serious injury, to be absolutely honest, IMO Polak falls short.

I think at the moment he is the best option, in the short term. Reading WP report about his performance at yea was encouraging. If he was simply getting outmarked at each contest I would be worried, but by ensuring the ball goes to ground if he doesnt mark it is a good thing, even if he doesnt mark it as often as you would hope.

On the weekend he took the best defender that allowed jack a bit of leeway, and if the opposition put the best defender on jack it will probably free up Poly to take a few grabs. Naturally the sides with the best defence in the league are going to hurt us either way, but that was always going to be the case this year.

If poly can keep doing what he did at yea it takes the pressure off rushing grithiths and astbury. Already many people put these two in their best side, yet grithiths has not even played a game, last I heard he isnt even in full training, recovering from a shoulder injury. The same with Astbury, only played one NAB game and showed signs, but that's it. If both of these guys make it we will be lucky, but they are a long off being part of a match winning forward line.

To be able to wait until they are ready to play is a good thing, even if it that means we don't see much of them in Richmond colors this year.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

unfortunately we are stuck with polak. they wouldnt promote him if they werent going to play him.

what im hoping to see.

f/  roberts - polak - morton.
hf  cotchin - riewoldt - astbury/taylor.

the real problem is we dont have a genuine FF. well griffiths  in time. maybe gourdis in time as well. hmm  thats a big maybe.

I like that forwardline with the exception of Cotchin. I would move him more on to the wing so our inside midfielders can feed it out to him and Lids who are both excellent uses of the ball and can pinpoint our leading forwards. I would place Nahas in that position as a defensive forward who can crumb a few and move into the midfield from time to time.
