Tigers deny cards are marked for Shane Tuck or Jordan McMahon Jon Ralph
Sunday Herald Sun
April 04, 2010RICHMOND is emphatic it has not put a line through the names of Shane Tuck or Jordan McMahon at the selection table.
Both veterans were absent when Richmond was heavily beaten by Carlton in Round 1, and are unlikely to be recalled in coming weeks.
The club has no firm policy on the pair, but is desperate to assess the kids on its list to see which of them has enough talent to flourish.
McMahon is on the last year of a $1million deal and was largely ignored in the NAB Cup campaign.
The club instead has chosen to reinvent Daniel Connors as a half-back and, despite some errors against Carlton, it is worth persevering with the experiment.
Tuck played several NAB Cup challenge games, and was the top-ranked player against Collingwood with 14 contested possessions in his tally of 33 touches.
But the club is determined to give games to youngsters such as Dustin Martin and Ben Nason instead of Tuck, who is also on the last year of his contract.
Both players are expected to win games during the year, with the Tigers missing just Nathan Foley of their first-choice midfielders.
Cousins was only solid against Carlton with critics quick to pounce, but was targeted by the Blues and looked short of match practice.
The Tigers face the Western Bulldogs today at the MCG, with Rodney Eade's side coming off a shock loss to Collingwood.
