SA forward Sam Day lit up the crowd with a HUGE leap! in the first quarter. Couldn't drag the grab in though.

Scores were level at 2.1.13 at quarter. No big touch-getters yet. Devon Smith 4 tackles.

It's official, Shaun Atley is my favourite this year. Every time I think "who was that?" it's him.

Half-way through the 2nd and no goals yet - Vic Country 2.4.16 vs SA 2.2.14.

Heavy rain falling now.

Jed Lamb playing a nice game for Vic Country so far, sporting the brightest yellow boots you would ever see!

Vic Metro too strong for WA in Under-18 titles
By Jason Phelan
3:18 PM Wed 30 June, 2010

Vic Metro   2.3   5.5   9.7   11.8   (74)
WA           2.2   5.4   7.5   8.7   (55)

A STRONG second-half performance has seen Vic Metro record a 19-point victory over Western Australia on the last day of the 2010 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships at Skilled Stadium.

The Victorians held a slender one-point lead at half time, but they outscored Western Australia six goals to three after the break to win 11.8 (74) to 8.7 (55).

Metro was well-served by its onball brigade with Andrew Gaff (24 disposals), Josh Caddy (23) and Matthew Watson (22) helping their side get on top around the stoppages.

Victorian Kieran Harper was the dominant forward on the day, finishing with four goals, including a brilliant effort to give his side back the lead late in the first half.

With the ball forced loose in a tackle deep in the pocket, Harper took possession, neatly dodged an oncoming tackler and threaded a spectacular goal from an acute angle.

Western Australia led briefly early in the third quarter thanks to an Alex Fasolo goal, but the Vics put on the next three to open up a commanding lead that wouldn't be headed.

Steven Coniglio led the way for WA with 18 possessions and Warrick Andreoli (17) and Fasolo (16) also worked hard, but highly-rated prospect Harley Bennell had a quiet day with just eight touches.

Jack Darling and Shane Kersten led the scoring for Western Australia with two goals apiece.

Vic Metro finishes the carnival with four wins and one loss, with the champion to be decided when South Australia takes on Vic Country in the final game on Wednesday afternoon.

3/4 time and there's an all-in blue on. The recruiters aren't interested in the best right hook boys! Vic C 5.7.37 v SA 5.4.34.

Last Qtr
Sam Day drills a lovely set shot for SA but Treloar answers with a ripper on the run from 50. He's been huge. SA 3pts clear.

13 mins gone final quarter. SA 7.5.47 lead Vic C 6.8.44. Both sides desperate. Good to watch.

-------------------------------------------------

VIC COUNTRY has taken out the 2010 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships despite going down to South Australia by four points at Skilled Stadium on Wednesday.

The Vics entered the final undefeated with a healthy percentage, with the Croweaters needing to win by a large margin to claim the national Division One crown.

The fiercely-fought encounter was in the balance right to the end with the 8.7 (55) to 7.9 (51) defeat enough to see Country take out overall honours.

Adam Treloar was influential for the Vics with 21 possessions while Shaun Atley (16), Jed Lamb (16) and Dyson Heppell (16) were all busy.

Brodie Smith was a standout for SA with 26 touches, with Jared Polec (20) and Sam Gray (19) providing excellent support. Daniel Gorringe was the leading goal kicker on the ground with three.

The tense match had all the hallmarks of a grand final, with players on both sides appearing nervous in the early going.

The sides were deadlocked at the first change despite the efforts of Country's Josh Walker who booted two goals in the opening term.

The Victorians were left to rue missed opportunities in the second quarter as they sent five shots on goal in a row wide of the mark, allowing SA to hit the lead. It was short-lived, however, with the Vics booting the last two goals of the term despite the onset of heavy rain which made conditions treacherous.

The teams continued to go toe-to-toe in the third with the Croweaters putting through two goals to one to set up an epic final term.

Sam Gray and Sam Day put their side ahead with the first two majors and despite a brilliant running goal from Adam Treloar, Gorringe's third proved the sealer in a thrilling win for the visitors.

Both sides finished the championships with four wins and one loss each.

seen just some hilights of the games, jacobs and atley good players, also like conca from wa, he seems a good player as well.

Conca getting alot of attention now. He is a good player - is he worth pick 6? Dunno seems like a reach. I rated him a 15 to 20 pick for the most part. Some of his kicking then seemed abit floaty for a potential pick 6 now. I would rate Polec in front of Conca at 6 but both players would be good players as would the likes of Gaff, Heppell or Atley as mids or Gorringe as a tall.
