How have you rated Hardwick as coach so far?
« on: June 07, 2010, 03:41:07 AM »
We've had 11 rounds to look at how Dimma has performed as our new coach.

So how have you rated his efforts so far given where we were when he took on the job? What you've liked, any negatives, what you'd like to see improve in the second half of the season, etc...?

Is going okay at the moment.
Probably listened to too many people down at Punt Rd and has now has now made his opinion on the players.
At least there is no more "" spin"" at Punt Rd.

A bit early to form any judgement. Still in the honeymoon period.

On that basis I'll give him a 7.

Are they continuing with pace from both ends?

exactly what the club needed.

8/10

only 1 win but the question is to judge him so far and he has done what he said he would.

biggest positive is he has sent the selfish pettifer type of players in Mclovin and Morton back to Coburg to work on the defensive sides, something the tanned one couldnt understand in his 5 years of spin.

In three months of football he has had a huge impact on the way the team goes about it.
The game against port highlighted just how far this side has come from the dark days of Wallace in terms of commitment and endeavor.

He has put the "...if we're behind then never mind we'll fight and fight" back into the Richmond Football club. Hopefully he can put the "..and win" back there as well.  :gotigers

He has gone back to basics and is first building a strong foundation , ie the commitment and endevour along with team rules that apply to everyone. Seems to be methodical and focused. He knows where he wants to go and how to get there.
No deviations so far.

A number of fringe players have shown improvement, something Hardwick said he should be judged on.

Given what he had at his disposal to start with, you really could not have reasonably expected much more that what he has done at this stage.

I do agree though Jack, it is good to get realistic appraisals from the club! No more five plans in terms of wins/losses, just development at the moment!

seems to be heading in the right direction, looks like the emphasis is definitely on development rather than wins just like he said, just hope he doesn't deviate from this plan bc we seem to be on the right track.

A high mark from me. 8

Almost everything Hardwick has said I have been impressed with because he has implemented those things...... not just say but DO!
I am most impressed with the talk from the players to Love and Respect the jumper, lets hope that continues.

The only criticism is that he wants only ball winners to play in the jumper. There are so many questions as to why some of the boys are still out there as in my case I have alot of questions on why Farmer is still playing and i'm sure all posters have question marks on someone but it may say more about our depth than anything else.

Anyway so far so good.  :thumbsup
The club that keeps giving.

High mark from me. I think he is doing exactly what he said he would, what the club wanted him to do and most importantly, what we desperately needed him to do and that is rebuild properly. Hardrick is an educator and has brought together a group of teachers to support him. Leppitch and Lade have done wonders already educating the rucks, midfielders and KPP such as Gus and Riewoldt. The reason why this years draft choices seems so amazing is as much to do with the development they are receiving as it does to the smart choices that were made.

No spin just actions and for mine he has full marks to date. When the list comes on and he needs to be more tactical I'll reevaluate but for now - KEEP IT UP!  :cheers

In the last few weeks, new dimensions have been added to the supposed game plan.
Simple things that weren't part of the structure they had previously tried to implement,
This is why we have seen a slight improvement in performance.

As a coach,DH fukced around for the whole first half of the season, trying this and that until the realisation that what he was doing was not even coming close to what a winning team needed.

He seems like a staunch personality but has made some big mistakes.
Lets see what the 2nd half of the season has to say.

I have been super impressed so far with DH.  I rate his season so far a 7.

He is doing what he said he would do...develop the kids...they are all getting opportunities and they seem to be developing nicely.

One thing I have noticed is that their spirits are up...not what you would expect from a team 1 - 10.

My only criticisms are:
1) in the first few weeks we appeared to go into matches with too short a line up...I personally do not believe you can compete with the height/weight of Cousins, Edwards, Farmer, Foley, King, Nahas, Nason, Newman, Tambling and White (all 183 or less) with Hislop and Thomson not much taller.  In my view we play too many of these guys at the same time;
2) why promote Polak and then only play him in 3 games so far... this is a flow on from point (1)...Polak adds height and gives support to Riew in the fwd line...and can occasionally ruck...
3) why promote a clearly unfit (for AFL stds) Roberts in rd 1 when you could promote say Gourdis (disclaimer - i sponsor David) and then promote Roberts after Rd 11 when his fitness is more up to afl std...
4) why keep Simmonds for an extra year when quite clearly the poor guy's body (knee) was shot last year..
