One more way to cash in on Tigers
CAMERON NOAKES
July 17, 2010

THEY say having Richmond back as a competitive beast is good for the AFL, but there are many of us who are not so sure.

But let's not despair, as we know, the next best thing to Richmond finishing last, is Richmond finishing ninth, and Sportsbet has a market on that outcome. Punters can get $10 about the Tiges ending the season in their favourite position, and considering they have landed just outside the final eight six times since 1994, you may be tempted.

The Richmond renaissance has been staggering and who would have thought punters would risk five-figure sums on the Tiges to win a game? That's what happened last week, with Sportsbet taking bets of $70,000 and $30,000 on Richmond to defeat Fremantle.

Richmond fever has hit TAB Sportsbet as well, and one delusional punter placed $250 on the Tiges to salute in the spring at $1001. The Tigers start favourite against North this weekend - and to think not long ago you could get $1.08 on them to finish last.
